Just a note: (not a plug, I came across these guys by acccident) The cheapest place to buy gps is right here in Manitoba. They are $100.00 or better cheaper than anywhere else I could find. Check out Prairie Geomatics (http://www.prairie.mb.ca) in Minnedosa. They handle Garmin & Magellan and any acces. you can think of. They are an internet business but will deal with you at the door or on the phone as well.

I agree we should deal local when we can, but I'm a cheap bugger who doesn't like paying two taxes if I don't have to.
Prairie Geomatics is an excellent place to deal, and they seem to have really good customer service, but being in MB they have to charge two taxes. (here's thier site):

But, if you're a cheap bugger like me, check out these guys in Calgary:
http://www.gpscentral.ca/
and these are the guys I've been dealing with (also in Calgary):

I've found all three to be worth checking out, and it never hurts to shop around and compare. I've also found The Fishin Hole to be surprisingly good price-wise on their GPS stuff. They also carry RAM mounts if you want to actually look at it before you buy it.

Some good points Bad Company, but..... so you save a 7% tax and dish it out in shipping..... costs about the same and you didn't support your local business either.
Prairie Geomatics and gpszone have some kind of connection I think as well as they referer to each other in their web sites

I recently bought a GPS and did a fair amount of research before purchasing. Priarie Goematics is the best price I found anywhere. There was one local dealer SIR in Winnipeg that was willing to come close but still ended up $60.00 more plus taxes. After the dust settled I chose the GPS-Map60CS. I would recommend the Map60C. Good value per $ and has a really nice colour display.

glad to hear it Mooseman. I just recently aquired a 60C (colour screen) and am going to try it out this weekend. I used to have a E-trex Legend it also was a nice model for the price but wasn't colour. I have seen the colour screens work in the daylight and I really liked it. The other thing I liked is that a new track over an old track is a different colour, so you can tell where you were today compared to last time out.

I agree with Mooseman. There's nothing wrong with the prices from Prairie Geomatrics in Minnedosa. I bought a Garmin GPSMap 60C from them along with the ram mount & 12v adapter. They gave me a package price better than the individual prices listed elsewhere.
I had the unit at my door the very next day! Prairie had the best prices within 200 miles of Winnipeg and I even checked out Cabela's in Grand Forks and even a couple of hunting/sporting/atv shops in Minneapolis before I bought.
I'm one of these guys who isn't scared to buy from American sources(heck, I've bought tons of antique Jeep parts, IH Scout parts and quad tires from all of over the US) or other Canadian sources and haul the stuff home if I can save a buck or three.
Anybody looking to buy a GPS in Manitoba, I highly recommend Prairie.

Jeez guys. I never said DON'T shop at Prairie Geo. I just offered other options.
When I bought My 60CS, and RAM mount, and power cables, and... ect, the bill was about $700.00which means each tax was about $50.00. The shipping from Calgary was less than $10.00, so I still saved $40.00 at least. Considering I live north of Wpg, the only thing that makes Prairie Geo a "local" business is the fact that they're in the same province as me. I will say, any dealing I have had with them has been excellent, but if I can help someone save a few bucks, I'll be sending them there, AND to Calgary for comparison.
Whew! Sorry guys, I hope we don't have to move this thread to the Battlegrounds after this reply, I'll be stepping off my soapbox now.

These guys have pretty competitive pricing and a good shipping policy.

Awesome site, I'll be bookmarking it for sure. Lots of good radio stuff there too. Good selection of VHF.
I've had good luck with radioworld.ca. My radios in the big truck came from them. They used to pay the shipping if your order was over 300 bucks but I don't know if they still do that. Also, no PST cause they are in Ontario.

Shop around guys, I know we'd all rather buy from local companies, but also don't forget that you will save on provincial sales tax, if you buy "out of province".
That's right, if you buy out of province, they can't charge you "provincial sales tax".
That means you only pay the GST.
And of coarse orders from Alberta you're only going to pay GST since they have no prov. sales tax.
Price stuff out and find free shipping....you could save quite a bit on a 500.00 purchase if there's only 7% added.

Hey Bad Company, I don't think anyone meant to "Jump all over you". Sometimes these posts seem a little tougher than one intends. Your right though; it's good to look around - for sure!
I have kept my eye on some of these different e-mail order companies and Prairie Geomatics has done very well for me personally. I had a little part on my GPS that broke; they sent me a new one in three days. That’s service.
Thanks allot to for the links. It's a cool thing to have direct access online. Right!

Whoa, no feelings of footprints over here. Like you say, sometimes these posts certainly do seem tougher than one intends. My "Geez Guys..." post is a fine example. That being the case, I might have actually been the one who did the "jumping". Although, I AM pretty sure Maxter must work at Prairie Geo or something. JUST KIDDING Maxter :beer3:

I just bought a Garmin etrex. It is cheep and works well for quadin. Unless ur gunna use your gps for highway driving i would stick to the cheapest ones you can find.
They say they are water proof but i wouldnt take that chance with a 600$ gps but maybe a 150$ one. i guess i will find out how it handles water soon enough.
