I got a Moose Country Plow (60") from Vinnie a few days ago and finally got it mounted on the KQ (its in Kenora)....it was easy to assemble and the mount relatively easy to install (its heavy). I put it through the paces this weekend going through tons of snow and it worked great...I was out playing for about 6 hours between Saturday and today with the Warn 2.5ci going up/down about 100 times or more....today when putting the KQ away I was shcoked to see the cable has worn a groove into the top of a horizontal cross memeber on the front of my front bumper..I can't recall the name of the bumper but it has two vertical tubes covered in hard plastic that let the ATv slide off stuff if rubbed on the nose, its the tube that runs horizontally between these tubes just below the winches roller fairlead that is the problem...and I tried running the cable under the tube but that didn't work it actully bent the tube from the bottom upwards as I lifted the plow....anyone else have these problems or a solution to this...thanks....I'll try to include a drawing I made (forgot the camera).

I think you can either remove the bar or extend the fairlead to prevent contact not likely any other way around it.

If you can't relocate your roller fairlead, drill a hold in the front of the push tubes, then attach the cable there. The new angle should reduce any wear on your bumper.

Moose makes a replacement roller fairlead with a fatter lower roller, which might help?

If you are going to use it that much, get either a synthetic rope or a short plow rope for the winter. To much stress on the cable.

Also, as a side note. Never leave the quad parked with the plow in the up position. Always lower the blade and take the tension off the cable/rope when you park it.

Warn said they have seen some cables kink from this.

Oh, nice drawing by the way! ;) Will come in handy if your quad ever gets stolen. You can post it up around town! :)

haha...as an artist I make a good....well not artist!....yah I got that bumper from RJD at Lukes and its great except for this....I think I'll try to replace the cross tube with a roller and I saw an idea at Wildwood Sports this morning where they run the cable to a pulley on the front of the push tube then up to the top of the bumper; that slows the up/down motion to half speed they say and makes it easier to position the plow...thanks for all the ideas...

mine was also cutting into my bumper all I did was wrap a soup can around the area where it was wearing (a couple of hose clamps to hold it on) for the winter and take it off in the summer when not using plow

I drive an 05 Vinson 500, Warn winch, Moose Plow.
Last week While cleaning the driveway found coolant in the snow.
here the cable had birdcaged and caught the lower rad mount tearing a hole in the Rad.
I wouldn't worry to much about the bumper. there should be an after market roller guide for you. as for my self I plan to repair the rad as a replacement is $893.00 and purchase a sinthetic winch rope. I'm not sure how simualr the construction between the KING and the VINSON, however you two might want to take a look and see how much distance you have between the Rad and the Winch Drum, I would advise to buy a syn as well, had I have listened to my buddy last year when he switched out his cable I wouldn't be shoveling now!!!! :floor_jack:
take care.

Don't use a synthetic rope for plowing. Buy a cheap princess auto one for that, put the synthetic back on for regular use. You'll waste $100 in no time. I don't even use the roller fairlead when plowing. On mine, it is a straight line from the winch down to the push tubes. I just run it right down, saves a LOT of wear on the cable. This might not work for other models tho.

AVINSON DEVELL and MAILMAN is there any chance I could talk you into taking a picture and posting it of your installations...I'm afraid my KQ is 2 1/2 hours away in Kenora but I'll take some pictures this coming weekend to prevent another crayon drawing fiasco being repeated like above...:O)

As for myself, pictures won't help as the front end of my Quad is stripped. once back together I will take a few.

Too funny, I thought it stuff like that only happenend to me, exact same thing happenend 2 weeks ago. Cable got a loop in it, didn't notice, spun around, caught the corner of the rad, and voila, green snow everywhere...and a rad missing one corner...didn't need that $300 and change...:angry-smiley-005:

As for the bumper wear, I put a pulley on the highest front bumper cross member, it gives a nice vertical lift on the plow, rather than the winch trying to pull the plow backwards all the time...and you still can use the roller fairlead...

kenora on my eiger i made some brackets to fit on my aftermarket bumper. i put a sheave pulley in between the two brackets so the winch cable comes straight out then down to my plow then through another pulley up to a mast bolted to my brackets. i don't know how to post pictures on this web site but i can send them to you.

I took some pictures of my McGyvered solution although it is still wearing on the cross tube. The soup can is taking the abuse now though.. sniper...I would love to see your solution to this...I added an eye bolt and pulley at the front of the push tube to move the cable away from the cross tube as much as possible and then up to a strap wrapped around the front of my bumper. This slows the vertical motion by 50% and makes it a lot easiler to fine tune the height...
and btw...I cleared every driveway within about 5 miles....wheeeeeeee..it was great...it was about +3 and sunny in glorious Kenora on Saturday!

I had that problem years ago on my atv and I used a small piece of chain and hung a block/pulley just below the fairlead, and ran the cable through it, which not only saved the bumper, but saved the winch cable from wear also
