Hey all.....took the sled out this weekend, and had the
cover on it while transporting it......has a few blemishes
on the hood that i need to get out. Is there any good wax
that would cure this?? All i have is that NuFinish stuff....tried a
couple coats of that, and seems to be slowly coming clean. May
take 4 - 5 more coats, unless there is something that i should
be using to get it back to clean. Maybe a 3 step thing, with cleaning
first, then waxing would do???

Any suggestion would help.........

P.S. I'm burning the cover as we speak...lmao. (no more covers for JB)..lol

I use an under cover then a fabric cover then a Nylon cover and I strap the cover down across the hood and seat. No wind buffeting for this sled head!

20 bux at princess for a universal nylon cover and my good cover doesn't get dirty? THX! YR

Just buy a piece of fleece to fit your hood and windshield and put it under your cover. 5 buck fix!

I never used a cover to transport sled. But my buddy and his dad cover there AC with AC canvas cover and they never had trouble with rubbing yet. If that helps any.

you can try a few things.

Plexus which is a plastic cleaner protectant and polish.

works with Plexiglass, colored plastic, fiberglass, ABS,Mylar, lexan, lucite, acrylite and all other acrylics(including painted surfaces)

Slip Streamer : it is a motorcycle windshiled cleaner and polish. ( can try usingslip streamer scratch remover first)

Works on Lexan, plexiglass, lucite, and all other acrylics.

Both are great for windshields, goggles, and whatever needs a good polish.

Same idea as doing a car...waxes only seal and may "fill" small imperfections. Those old hoods are painted, not color impregnated. Depends on how "deep these imperfections" are. If they are down to the color you will have to featheredge and spot paint the area and clear the entire hood. You may be able to sand them out, if you know what you are doing. Rubbing componds will "Level" out any scratches put in the clear from the sanding operation and bring the scratches up a few grit sizes. Machine glaze will take your compound scratches and polsih them to a shine, hand glaze will finish the process out and possiably remove the haze if it is not too bad.... Its defenitatey NOT like on TV.

JB,BEFORE you burn thu your paint , take it to colour melt on regent or someone like that , prob charge ya 30 bucks for a buff and wax !, unless your in the autobody bizz its hard NOT to burn thu to the paint , than you got big problems......and more $$$$

as for the covers i always go "comandoe" unless its warm and soupy out , than i wrap it in an factory a/c cover, fits tighter than the pants on ophra ! and no problems

i got a high speed polisher if you want to try it....

I tried the rubbing compound yesterday, followed by a
high gloss waxing. There are still a few minor scuffs that
are stubborn and won't come off. I've heard that a 3000
grit sanding and then a sealer wax will make the sled shine
like new, but that ain't gonna be me doing it...lol. If anything,
i'll try a couple more coats of wax, and see what happens.

Like i said, it's pretty minor marks.....if you didn't know it,
you wouldn't really see them (i'm over-meticulous...lmao).
I think i'll just bring the hood with me on my next trip to the
Peg, and get an autobody guru to give it a once over.

Thanks Mr. Excitement for the referral on the windshield
polish. There are scuffs there as well. I think i'll be
grabbing some of that stuff.
