Been making lots of coasters from ripped torrents and wonder if it's the media or the way I burn. Movie's will freeze near the end of the movie and stop. I have an external Philips burner, Nero StartSmart software and Maxell 16x DVD+R. Any help?

No expert, but I ripped a few and found they sometimes would freeze and it wasn't the dvd, in that you could back it up and it might play through or freeze in a different spot. Never found a solution and quit messing with it a while ago.

When I had Nero I had nothing but problems trying to burn DVD's, but it would burn mp3's and audio CD's ok. I can't suggest a different progran because I switched to a Mac and use iDVD now.

Use DVDShrink (freeware) with Nero (doesnt have to be Nero, but I have had 0 problems this way so far). To remove the protection use DVDFab Decrypter (freeware). DVDFab Decrypter will remove the copywrite stuff, save it as a folder on your HDD, use DVDShrink to take that folder, select the Audio/Video options you want to keep, (thus decreasing the size of the original so that the quality is still good when you are finished your burn. Hard to make an 8gb movie fit on a 4.7GB DVD+/-R, DVDShrink will walk you through the process) encode and then burn it to a DVD.

Just one question... Do I need to use Decrypter if it's a ripped torrent off the net or only for copying copywrited discs? I'll try dvdshrink with nero and see what happens. Thanks

I've been backing up movies a while now and I use all the same programs as Stryk without problems. A few tips that I have learned are:

- use quality media. For me, I have found that Verbatim DVD's work good and are quite often on sale at stores like Staples.

-set the burn properties to only burn 4.3gig of data on the DVD. Anymore that 4.3 gig of data takes you to the outer edge of the DVD where it is more fragile.

-slow down your burn speed. Set the burn properties to burn at 1/2 the speed of what the disc is rated for.

Here's a link to a website with a lot of good info. There are some good guides under the guides tab that will take you through the entire process step by step using the same software that Stryk and I use.

hope this helps

are you burning those torents as a avi or are you converting them to dvd and then burning.when I want to make a dvd I convert the avi to dvd using winavi but been having a bit of trouble with that program as I get some flickering sometimes.I am going to try cucusoft avi/mpeg to dvd/vcd/svcd/mpeg converter.I burner them as a avi so that I can get 5 to 6 movies on 1 disc but your dvd player has to support divx.

I download .avi files and then burn them onto disc right from nero (using nero to fit to disc). I'll try dvdshrink to see if it makes a difference. Thanks guys
