View Full Version : Metal filings around winch
I've been doing a bunch of plowing lately and I noticed filings around the winch, also the cable has started to fray. There seems to be what looks like a large chewed up spacer or washer caught up in the cable and the sides of the spool are chewed up. I was playing in my yard the other day and got stuck a few times and had to use the winch to get me out. I was winching on an angle for one of the times. Any ideas what I was doing wrong?
This is my first winter with the winch (a superwinch t2000) and it has been working great.

I'm guessing Bushing on the side of the drum may have worn out which allows the drum to spin metal on metal with the main frame braket things of the winch. More then likly need a new drum, side bushing and perhaps the main frame things..
Talk to Vinnie. I'm betting he got what you need in stock.
EDIT I just realized you said it a super winch so he may not have parts for that one.

Thats exactly what I was going to say because that happened to my Warn 2.5. I was whinching at an angle and the cable jumped the spool and tor out my bushing. I had to replace my spool and my bushings
Well that really sucks considering how little i've used it. Is there a special technique to winching at an angle to avoid this from happening again? Anybody know where to buy replacement parts for it?

i can get the replacement superwinch stuff but i dont stock only warn
Thanks, I'll give you a call after I take it apart.
I checked it out today and found that the metal came from the flap that is used to guide the cable on the spool. The side of the spool is a little rough also so I will have to smooth it out. I think I will be ok without that piece for now. Thanks everybody for your quick and useful replies
