View Full Version : Advice on used mig welder
I know a guy who is selling his mig welder, its a millermatic 200. He was not sure how old it is because he bought it used a few years ago. It is set up with gas and comes with an extra 45lb spool of wire. He is asking $1500 obo. Does that sound reasonable?

Some searches in the net, in particular the Hobart site, suggests this now discontinued machine was a real gem, very heavy duty, tapped welder like the 251, with pulse control, good for thick and thin. That said, its potentially 20 years old (you'll have to look at it and try to figure that out) and I think $1,500.00 is overpriced.
You can't really compare it to a MM210 which is lighter duty, but on the other hand you might be able to get a new machine with warranty for not that much more. Go into the dealors and see what they have to offer. What do you plan to do with it?

The millermatic 210 is priced at $1879.43 in the 2006 Acklands Grainger catalogue.I think the 200 is overpriced based on the age and also can you still get parts for it.I work at Acklands and know the Miller welders are an excellent unit.

Too much money for the 200. It's a good welder yes just over priced for used.
What would be a fair offer? I went on a few web sites and it sounds like this machine is close to the mm251 which is around $2500 new. Plus he is including a 45 lbs spool of wire and the tank which has another two years on the contract which he said he would keep in his name till it runs out.

So is he paying for the tank for two years? If so, that tank is worth about $30 per year, depending on the size.
