Hey whats that round steel thing on the right lower corner of this pic.. Make a GREAT boat anchor if your company loses yours off your boat in the middle of the river.. Might want to hang on to that.
So when we getting the boat and going fishing.. You drop anchor this time K ?

Hey I bet ya that ice is pretty loud right about now?
I grew up on the Assiniboine and break up was always fun. One year we found a Dune Buggy floating up side down in the ice flow. We were able to retrieve it and got it running. Lots of fun!
We were on an outside curve so we sometimes got ice up to 2 ft thick push itself 20ft up the bank. Awesome! thx...:D

Seems to me that the breakup this year was quite fast.
Does that indicate the quality of the ice was not that good or something else ?

I went over the old bridge to selkirk earlier, has yet to break up there.
Watching the river break up is really neat, was wathcing it a couple years ago for about 30min then bang everything stopped, pretty neat, guess a ice jam formed by the airport.

It only broke about the 1st 5 miles from the dam .Still solid in Selkirk this morning!

Took a drive to Breezy Point yesterday. Solid ice all the way. Coming from the south, the ice is broken to just past southern town limits. The rest should be breaking up soon...

I wouldn't be on that ice if it looks solid. The water under is expanding and it is moving quick.

I hear ya chef. Just to clarify I was driving on the road, not on the river. And by solid I meant one continuous piece of ice, not the ice's ability to sustain weight. So to avoid confusion, everyone stay off of the river!

Everyone seems to enjoy seeing a river break up, here are a couple pictures of what I am faced with right now, and every spring. Anyone interested in coming up and helping me clean up the mess? You can imagine (I would assume) how much water I have racing across the fairways right now. This is one of the worst floods I have seen here, usually the river will flood, break up and be gone in about 8 to 12 hours, this has been like this since Tusday morning. The picture of the bridge and the river, the level of the water in normal times is about 10 to 12 feet below the bottom of the bridge. Picture 6 (the pine tree in the middle) is 18 fairway, completely submerged under ice and water, the last picture is number 7 fairway ic and water. The rest are various locations on the course.

It happens every year, pain in my ass as I have to clean up and restore everything and get people out golfing as quick as possible. That is our club house, the pictures are from the Gilbert Plains Country Club.
