Can anyone tell me why my lawnmower would pump oil out the top breather tube/assembly when I even pull it over?Never came across this prob before but it really pumps it out once it starts up.Thanx :floor_jack:
On another mower, that was given to me,the thing has a vibration that acn be felt in the handle.Could it be the woodruff key got bent and is out of time or is the shaft bent?If bent, who repairs, and is it worth the repair price?

Sounds like a vent tube is blocked

Where would this tube be located as I thought it was the vent tube/breather tube on the top of engine that the oil was coming out of?

Just wondering what style motor this is.. Is it a push type.. As i have seen many people over the winter store there mower standing up right and all the oil passes the rings and blows all over.. If this also just started happening id check for overfilled oil.. blocked breather or if it is getting air from a crankcase leak.ie(crank seal, leaking seal for dipstick.. Mainly this problem is with the briggs vanguards.. If you want to bring it by my shop just pm i will take a look after hours for you.

make sure that it's not overfilled seen that before more problems with the mowers with dipsticks

I know it wasn't overfilled as that was the first thing I checked for.It wasn't hung up either for storage.I saw oil come out the breather tube on top as I replaced the woodruff key thinking it could have been the problem.Thanx for your responses!

Have you checked the compression. Is it maybe getting so much blow by that it is pushing it out the breather? Did the rings stick over the winter? How hard is it to start? I used to have an old snowblower that did the same thing, but it was a pig to start.

While working on the lawnmowers today,I put a lil oil in to try firing it up after cleaning out the breather tube,I walked away for a bit and when I got back there was a puddle of the fresh oil under the machine.Looks like the bottom crankcase seal leaked as far as I could tell.Could this be the problem of it pumping oil out of the breather tube as well?
The compression was 115 lbs after about 8-9 pulls.

do you have a bad vibration when the engine is running?? if its a bent crank they will still run but your bottom and top seal will start to leak.

There was no vibration on this particular machine but it just started shooting oil out the breather.I noticed what seems like an oil seepage out the bottom seal. One maintenance man @ work says it may be the oil control ring is shot inside the machine as well?

if it would be the oil control ring it would smoke a lot(oil would bypass the rings and burn up) if it would be worn out rings it could cause pressure buildup in the crankcase but even then i don`t think that is the problem,is your air filter clean??this can also cause oil to come out of the breather,i`ve never had this problem on any mowers yet and i service around 90 of them a year, i now that on a vanguard twin if you have any crankcase leaks (seals ect) it will then push out oil through the bypass tube
