weird volume behavior

(this is happening to my nephews computer...)

Do you have any idea why when he opens any file that has sound (mp3, mpeg, etc) the WAVE volume drops to 0 for each file that is played? The main volume control does not change.

In order for him to hear anything, he has to open the sound panel and raise WAVE volume each time.

I've looked on the net, and others have had the same issue, but no one had posted a solution. Any ideas?

He has:
Win XP Pro
Norton System Works 2003 (current)

there both for pc now.
but if they work perfect its a mediaplayer problem.
just put in your xp disk and install media player again.
I like itunes myself maybe give it a try.
