Thanks Guys.......I liked my sportsman but it had way to many break downs.......Sometimes we buy a lemon.
I had my eye on a BF or a KQ.....but I need a quad the kids can drive too.

Hey SP those tires are my 26" 589's from my sportsman....they bolted up on to the stock Honda rims nicely.....I actuall have more fender clearence on this Honda than I did after my front end lift on my poo. I was pleasently surprised.

So who is going to help me break this puppy in "Trackshare Style"

straight pipe
03-04-2005, 10:28 PM
wow i didn't know they bolted up like that..cool. the pics you posted are a little dark so i couldn't tell what they were but i knew they weren't the stockers. so what happened to the original rubber from the rubi? time to strut!!

Hey Sp I couldn't reply to your pm because your mail box is full...please delete some stuff

Stock rubber got put on my poo when I traded it in.......I didn't have my stock rubber from the poo....I wasn't too happy about giving up the honda stock tires as they are real nice.

Amazing what happens when you loose 500 lbs of steel from a quad eh? hey ma! look I'm floating! :beer3:

The new machine looks good Nacho, come a few weeks and we can test it's submergence and floating capabilities in the floodway. There should be a little bit of water in it. Not too much, by the time you hit Drayton, ND, you can drive in the field with a 2wd pickup. There's not much snow here in Minneapolis, I've seen tons of quads floating around here in the northwest burbs playing in the 3" of snow that's on the ground still in places. I've been telling these guys (quads to the left & the right of me down here) to go check out www.trackshare.com and see how us Canadians do it!

Just curious why you felt the honda would be easier for the wife and kids to drive then the King Quad or Brute Force? Congrats on your new ride.

Thanks ProComp

The KQ and BF are too powerful for a 8 year old to drive. when they are in low you can still go 40mph or flip them over back wards.....On this honda it has an auto tranny and a manual shift mode so I can stick it in low and 1st gear and maxed out it does about 5mph...just alot safer for the kids.

if I was buying a quad for just me then I would of gotten the KQ.....yes the BF is faster but the KQ has EFI and that is more important to me than speed.

I know going to this Honda I am traded one of the nices riding quad for one that doesn't have a belt drive.
I know I will miss the ride quality....but I hope not too much.
From what I have seen and read this Rubicon has a special suspension package developed for Canada. That is why they call it a Canadian trail edition. So far I have no complants about the ride but ask me again after an all day ruff derby ride. :hide:

Very nice ride Nacho, it is about time you got a decent quad (I kid because I like). That quad is decked out nice, now all you need is the pipes for the snorkel strapped everywhere, then it will fell alot better. Can't wait to riding and see how these Honda's do in the thick stuff.

I bought it new Feb 1st 2004...So it was only 1 year old and 1925 miles on it. Hard too beleave eh! :omg:

Hey Optima23 I traded it in on the 05 Rubi CTE at Avenue Honda/Polaris in Portage. I took the front and rear box and pegs off, All snorkles and windsheild. I didn't repair or replace any cut pannels, Avenue Honda has done most of the work on it so they know the repair history. I am impressed with how well they have treated me and their service department. :humbs:

Thanks Bakes.....I am curious too about the mudding ability.
Yes MooseMan Honda's a very reliable...But like QM Said Suzi makes a great one too but the KQ is too powerful for a family machine. :burnout:

Hey Nacho give us your honest opinion of the differences (good and bad) between the 400 Polaris you had, and the 500 Honda Rubicon you now own. I would like get others opinions on the comparison too.
I had a chance to drive the new Rubi today and it is a nice machine. The suspension is very lively, I would guess from the lack of wieght. Apparently only 600+ wet pounds. I like the GPS mounted in it too. Very nice. The workmanship is outstanding, I can't say enough about it. Quality is top notch. It is a small quad, and I think maybe be targeted at single rider trips than a bull work horse. Honda abviously took some time off to re-invent the ATV, and I think they have done it. Even the suspension is "tuned" to Canadian trails and long rides. I found it a little under powered (it was pushing 26" 589s) but I have been spoiled by a Kawi 700 so I won't go any further than that. The quad finish is tight but not without compromises, but with allot of R&D. Well done Honda, watch out Kawi, Yami and SUZIE. On the other had I don't think Polaris, A/C Bombi are in the same class. I don't want to start something but take a new Honda out and you'll understand what I mean. If you don't... well we will just have to agree to disagree. Just my over-opinionated view yet again..

NachoMan
03-08-2005, 01:31 AM
Mooseman, I know the quad feels like 500lbs or less.but book says it is 600lbs.
it seams alot smaller than my poo and i can throw it around..it is alot more fun to drive.
my two kids sat on it and i got on the back behind them and the suspension didn't bottom out it sat good still.....on my poo i had to crank the spings up to the hardest setting and then i also added spring stiffeners.I wont need to do that to the rubi, it takes a heavy load better. I put my 26" x 9 and 26"x12 on the rubi and no tire rub, lots of clearence I could put 27" on.
it isn't broken in yet but,it acelerates allot faster than the poo and top end is more too. it is always in gear so engine braking is great and at all 4 wheels.
it floats on top of the snow instead of sinking and getting stuck.
sportsmans are one of the best riding quads out there....but this rubi rides great too..it is just different because it is a SRA. I think the poo gives a better overall ride .
I am realy impressed with the fit and finish of the rubi.
when Mooseman was fallowing me on some bumpy snowmobile trails he said it looked like it floated over the bumps, it never got out of shape. I was impressed.
I love the tranny,no belts, put it in drive and nail the gas, you don't feel any gear changes it just accelerates. or put it in ESP mode and you can push a button to shift and you have 5 gears just like a dirt bike.
Braking is great it has disk brakes, new thing for Honda.
in summery: poo...better ride, heavy wheight helps in water crossings.
Rubi......takes a heavier load....faster top end and acceleration,no belts, auto tranny with manual mode. fit and finish, float on top of snow, more fun to drive.
very happy I bought the Rubi, no regrates. time will tell on relyability.

NachoMan
03-08-2005, 02:44 PM
Thanks 03Griz.................I have done some checking, I need to do more.I came accross some pics and it is alot easyer to do on this honda than my poo. the problem I will have is the Honda is lighter and I think it will want to roll over and put the rubber side up. My poo was very stable in deep water, I will miss that.

Oh one more thing about comparing.
the honda is a 500 and my sportsman was a 400 so of course the Honda is faster.......but the dealer sells Honda and Polaris and they raced the Rubi against a 05 500HO and the rubi one. I was surprised too here that. both were new so maybe when they are broken in the results might be different as sportsman's get faster as they break in.

now that is funny.............

but on a serious note...I now have 2900kms on my Rubicon and have only had one problem with it...granted a major one......but with my poo i drove it on weekends and it spend the week days at the dealership getting fixed. then repeated that week after week. My first break down with the poo was after it had 10kms on it and my son was driving it and broke a rear cv joint . I had alot of break downs with the poo......the new owner of my old poo 400 has had problems too.
So all things considered...I am glad I got ride of that LEMON poo and moved up to the Honda Rubicon. Only one break down and covered under warrenty.

That one was a little below the belt, I couldn't pass it up though. But on another note 2900kms thats pretty good in the time you had it. I still say honda would be my first choice if they made a physically larger bike. And I didn't look like a bear rideing a tricycle. Although the bomb has been ok 3300 miles in exactly 12 months went in for warranty one time.
