Looking for a destination for this summer for a weeks holidays of camping/quadding and came across this site. Anybody familiar with this location or ridden out in this area? It is about 1 hour east of Kenora. Also if anybody has any other suggestions in the Kenora area would be interested in hearing about them. Haven't totally decided if it will be Alberta, Ontario, or North Dakota yet, but leaning towards Kenora area. Any info or links would be appreciated. Planning on going mid July. Maybe if some others from Brandon/Wpg/Kenora area were interested we could get something planned for a group ride.

Once you get your GPS replaced you can use these tracks (http://www.trackshare.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4364) for Highwind Lake and area.

I know the area like the back of my hand....Highwind is a great area for trail riding, mudding is almost non-existant though. There are lots of areas to camp in that area also. Highwind Lake Camp has a campground (unserviced) and there is also Andy Lake Camps at the beginning of the Highwind Lake Road, but they are strictly cabin rentals. Rushing River Provincial Park is about 10 minutes north of there but you would have to trailer your quads from there. Let me know if you are coming and I'll show you around.

This area is sounding better all the time, no mud is no problem if the trails are good and the scenery great! Will likely take you up on that HRL if you are available at the time if we decide to head out that way, thanks!

I camp at hillock every year and have for the past 20 years or so.My wife and I go with our quads and small trailer and find a spot to camp. There are many lakes and camp sites if you are into camping with no amenities unless you bring your own.I have a ct powerpack that I use to light the led string lights around my camp site,I bring a small dvd for movie night just incase it rains.we are going the third week of july for about 4 or 5 days should be a blast..

Andy Lake resort has verry nice Log Cabins to rent and about 20 camp sites. It is at the start of the trail system and a great place to stay. They dont mind quaders , either have been there 3 times would definetly recommend it. Long haul to reddit about 1 hour plus trailering the quads?

Check these guys out, http://www.sharandatvadventures.com

They know the area inside out. The photo album has a bunch of good pics of highwind. They are hosting a camp and ride weekend on the 20 - 22 of June. I know you are talking mid July but these guys really know how to guide a GREAT ride. Definately it will be a fantastic weekend of riding.

They also Video tape all their rides, and make a DVD availiable for a small fee
It is a great way save your memories and share your experience.

Maybe we'll see you there!

Ive been to Highwind Lake Camp for the last 3 years and it is awesome. The fishing is great, the trails are great and its super quite as the camp is the only thing at the end of a 45 minute ride down an old logging road. You dont get the boat traffic. The camp itself, is a family owned site. They have cabins you can rent as well as serviced & unserviced sites. Showers, flushing toilets, etc. The beaches are great, and exploring is wonderful. I honestly cant say enough great things about that area! Im disappointed we arent going this year.

Went for a spin on Highwind Lake Road yesterday, put on about 60 miles. Great weather for a ride, no wind so the bugs were brutal when you stopped but other than that a great day!

You guys planning on going there Dave?I had planned on making a trip there this summer but can't commit as Mish is going to be unable to ride for some time. Hopefully later in the summer or fall she will be back on the trails and we can make it out there.
