Is this of all time or current bikes? All time, here's my list, no particular order.....
1. Honda Fourtrax 250R, probably the best all time sport quad
2. Honda Fourtrax 300, the quad that defines reliability
3.Yamaha grizz 700, probably the best all around quad made
4.Polaris SP500/500HO, the originator of just about every feature demanded in today's quads, and still better than alot of others
5.Yamaha Raptor 700,
6.Suzuki Quadracer 500, the original eyeball blowing quad
7. Yamaha Banshee, the only bike to go unchanged for 25 yrs and still be relevent
8. Suzuki Quadsport 230, the sportquad we all wanted as teenagers(well us old guys anyways)
9.1986 Honda Fourtrax 350 4x4, the bike that started the 4x4 fun
10.2004 1/2 Polaris Sportsman 700EFI, the original bigbore,EFI that has been copied like crazy.

I like how ILT put the 650 in front of the 750 brute, I was told they put out more power in a power-weight ratio.

LMAO yeah the reason the brutes are under mine pics is the diff lock clutch and no efi for the brutes except for the 08 750 and i have not heard anything good about them yet. Only reason but i did forget to mention no particular order jst 10 bikes i would buy if i had all the money in the world and do them up.

In all seriousness, here is my response to this post:
Sportsman 700 is great for trail riding and playing in the pitts, as we used to own one. Never did too much mudding with it, but it was alright. As for durability, we smoked a deer on it doing 100km and all it did was bend the brush guard. Rolled it down a sand hill and only busted the speedo.
CanAm 500 is great for bottom end power and okay for top end. Difficult to catwalk if you are interested in showing off. Overall a great all-purpose quad and I will not go with anything but CanAm after having a taste of one. Sure they are more expensive, but why buy a peice of crap for half the price?? You'll need to replace it in 2 years! Doesn't it suggest anything when some brands are a dime a dozen?? Maybe CanAm's just seem unafordable to the Average Joe, or they are too scared to invest that type of dollar into something unfamiliar to them?? Don't trash something until you've tried it!
Artic Cat seems to have great bottom end power, but top end seems average. Apparently they break down fairly often. Other than that, don't know too much about them.
Honda is reliable. Have great bottom end power and the larger bikes also have okay top end power, but most people have to do a few alterations to make it into the quad they are looking for. Great for trail riding, pitts and mudding.
Other brands: don't know too much about them.

Maybe it's cause I have a diff lock that I like it over the awd polaris or the visco lock can am's, I know I like how my front wheels turn at the same rate as the rears unlike the poo's.

Oh, and I forgot to mention about the CanAm. One flaw we have had is when going through a lot of water. If you don't stop every so often and pop it in neutral and rev it up to dry the belt, it will start slipping. It did that to us in the middle of the water and good thing we were with other people, cause there wasn't a tree in sight we could have winched to!!
Another flaw is having to stop to shift from high to low. But other than that, nothing else I can think of. Every bike has it's flaws though.

Nope same speed or it would kill the AWD pretty quickly. Same as any vehicle (unless there is limited slip). Think about it for a second. Diffs would be blowing up like mad if that were to happen. The vid you are talking about is how fast the AWD engages. It was less then an eight of a turn of the tire.

I see, I understand that a normal machine would blow the diff, but did not know if polaris had some sort of magic up their sleeve (in their diff), you know what I mean, the same magic that makes people want to buy their product. lol.

You sure they know what they are talking about. Check all your connections with your intakes and your clamps and your pep cock better yet fill it with tremsil pep cock that is. Water is getting in there somehow and this is why your belt is getting wet this is not a flaw something is not tight or the pep cock is stuck open and sucking in water.

Some of the 06 & 07's had bad seals around the belt cover which has been completely changed for 08. If you go in too deep or hit water too fast you will get a little water on the belt. This is an easy fix for about $10 which will extend your belt intake to as high as the speedo....no more taking water in!!
Both of my 08 Outlanders have been up to the front rack (briefly) with no water on the belt.
And I agree, you get what you pay for. I have to laugh a little when people think they are saving money on a machine then go buy wheels, tires, winch, handguards, bumpers....then they still have a machine with a six month warrenty and no power!!!

My dealer did both of my machines before I picked them up. All there is to it is taking some flexible hose and extending the CVT intake up under the speedo....if you take water in there, your in waaaaay too deep. Your dealer might do this for you and the parts shouldn't cost any more than $10.

Well here is mine Based on impact on the industry:
Honda Fourtrax 300
Yamaha Big bear 350
Grizzly 660
Grizzly 700
Sportsman 500 (we would not have IRS and diff lock with out this machine, Ill stop there though)
Kawasaki Prairie
Original Suzuki KQ (not the 700)
Brute Force 750
AC 500 maual
Grizzly 600
I dont have canam in there, and that is not because they are not good machines, however I feel they have not contributed anything to the market except for putting consumers in turmoil over power comparisons between machines and making there machines look good on paper.
As for the CA 500 has 40 hp which is pretty good. The Rubicon has 31 hp. It is easy to do the math and it really does not add up.
x4332
05-21-2008, 11:00 PM
I just want to let people know that I dont have a 700 for power, I bought it for the efi, if the 500 had efi I would have bought it. Actually that is a lie, i went in looking for a 500, sold out, 650, only in black (I dont like the all black cats), one 700 EFI with the color I wanted and the wicked trade in crikside did for me I was sold. I am not bashing Can Am, I did not like my brothers skidoo and carried it over to the atv side after I heard horrible warranty issues that I dont want to get into.
Drive what you like and how you like. If you want to take a Renegade down a road at a million miles an hour, go for it, if you want a brute or king with Gorillas to throw some hard mud go for it. I was happy with my 400 until the snow got a little to deep at the end of winter, that's why I traded.

Not true never had a problem with the seal on the the belt housing, it is a simple fact that the intakes and exhaust especially the exhaust on the cvt are too low, snorkle them and this will no longer be an issue, if this problem is when your only tire deep then it is the seal on the backside of the housing, which is warrantied and I hope from getting this water in your belt all the time that you take apart and clean it. I seen you the other night there...skidmark..:action-smiley-075: LOL!! when you didn't listen and got her pretty wet, clean that housing out or atleast take it in and get it checked over, dealer will know right away that there has been water in there but maybe if you convince them that this machine is babied then they could check your seal in and out to be sure that is not your problem because it was a problem in 06/07..... FYI they really don't like seeing water damage if there aren't any seals leaking!!!!!!!!!

So now he takes off to Flin Flon, and I got to take care of the problem! lol!! We ripped it apart last night and it was fine, no dirt or anything.... and just a warning, HE NEVER LISTENS!! But he did get water somewhere else!!! %@$#!!!! So now he takes off to Flin Flon, and I got to take care of the problem! lol!! Obviously water in the intake, filter was soaked and filthy, oil leaking from somewhere and burning, smoking..... quite a mess!! Not sure where to start here..... trying to do what I can from home, do a few oil changes, I heard somewhere to drain the gas but don't know if that is necessary. Also heard somewhere to take off the exhaust incase there's water build up, so we did that just in case and nothing...... advice???
Oil leaking??? In what area of the bike? Have you changed your oils in the diifs and gear box? If not I would!! Run a few oil changes through her could even put some sea foam in one of the oil changes and clean it out that way, not worried about the fuel tank and you say air box was full of water or partly full clean and dry really well and snork the thing!!! Skidmark should be his name if she's still smokin after this then it's warranty or autopac if you have collision coverage then they do cover stupidity believe it or not my bro lost control and wound up underwater really bad and thought it was done and phoned in to MPI and they were going to cover it but a few oil changes and some TLC and away it went....up to you but whatever you decide keep that skidmark outta them ditches........ let me know how it turns out

my graps bought a suzy 250 in 86, she still fires like a trooper but pretty stiff suspension if any at all. Lately he uses it to drag the driveway to smooth out the ruts from his highway tractors.
It has been through 6 grand kids who didnt know shite about driving one of those.

Define to me what machine is reliable is it the one that you ride every weekend and put 1000+miles on every summer and it gives you no grief at all?? never known a machine like that yet unless the owner is full of shit or is reliable the one that every once in a while you might have a seal leak or something small like a dirty rad and a bit of overheating?
Ive been riding now for well I bought brand new in 05 honda foreman blew 1 wheel bearing that about it, honda 680 brand new had issues with it running back firing sputtering, cv boot lack of power no low range...... have my 800 now and to date regular oil changes, front seal on output shaft leak and that's about it have over 1000 miles on it in 9 months and never let me down is that defined as reliable???? Don't know of a machine yet that runs in the reliable range 365 even my old 3 wheeler Honda awesome machine beat the snot out of it and it had it's days too chain loose bent sprockets new chains, wouldn't stay running.............

I read somewhere about the diff and the gear box! He leaves it up to a woman ehh?? I'll show him! I should snork the thing myself too!! lol
Andy was commenting on your snork design, and was wondering if he could possibly use the same design?? Or just come by when he gets home and take some notes?? That would really be awesome...... especially the ways he drives the damn thing!!!

As for Can Ams not being reliable, well my 06 400 Max had 5,000km on it in just under two years and the only thing I had to do was the brake pads and lots of flat tires. Now I've had my '08 800 and 650 for 8 months now (800 has 2,100km and the 650 has about 1,300km) the only thing so far was a bad solenoid on the 800.
The nice thing is, we will put on about 4-5000km per year on these things with nothing to worry about because they both have three years of warranty.

I'm really impressed with the logic behind this list. Pretty much every model you listed, I said "huh?" until I read the reason. Then I had no choice but to nod in agreement.

Not all quads are created equal. Yes they all have their problems but some makes more than others. Hey 3 years of warranty is great but I,d rather ride than fight with a dealer over warranty and not be able to ride because my quad is in the shop again.
