Any one ever put a fire place(not stove) in their house? Was it hard to build and get it to pass code? What and where did you get it?

Hope you have lots of insurance money to to spend they are a killer to insure I hear double of what you would pay now. You must have a chinney sweep done every year the dollars are just burning up the chinney year after year . But if that is you cup of tea as the say . Just my 2 cents ,I'm not worth to much hahahahhah

my understanding is that a wood stove ups your insurance by approx. 25% and a fire place makes no difference. Its not classified as a main source of heat. Correct?? Any one.??

Any one.??As long as it's a zero clearance built in to the wall type of fireplace you are right RRPZ, there is no 25% surcharge. This is with Wawanesa Mutual Ins. Co., I don't know about the others.

I have two brick fireplaces in my home and they make zero difference to your insurance. Can't help you with where to get one built but expect to pay lots these two were over $8000 25 years ago, I expect you would pay that much or more just for one.

I have a wood / electric furnace as my main heat source, insurance has a 25% surcharge. Considering I figure I could save in the neighbourhood of $1000 per heating season on hydro, that's not a bad deal.

A fireplace adds zero to an insurance policy.
