You can't do anything to keep them off, not type off repellent bothers them. I don't think they sell anything for them, and if they do it's just a scam to make money!!! The only alternative would be to stay inside all summer!! And even then they can be tracked in the house by anyone or pets. I've lived out in the bush all my life and have dealt with them since forever.People make up all these stupid myths like they dig a hole into your skin and live inside you, or they lay eggs inside your skin!!!
And they don't just live in the bush. You can pick one up walking through the short grass in your yard! So tough luck!!
They're not so bad!! Just pick them off and burn them or flush them down the toilet!! My boyfriend is a wimp and he's scared of them too!! Come on now!! They're smaller than your pinky nail!! OOOHHH, scary!! lol:cheers:

One time I was walking in the yard and was heading towards a tree. A woodtick dropped from the tree and onto my arm. That has happened on more than one occassion, probably at least 20 times that I've noticed!

Especially those Wolf Spiders that can jump 6 feet!!! And they live here in Manitoba!! AAHHH!! Ever see one do it?? I had one in my bathroom on the counter, then all of a sudden it launched onto the wall by the light fixture about 4 feet away...... GROSS!! I'm scared they'll launch at my face or something!!!

there are some people that woodticks don't like...something in their skin. Maybe eat some garlic and see if that helps. Who knows what they don't like, but like ATV_Babe said, I didn't have any in me last year...maybe I just found them in time...who knows..

I've found 2 repellants that work. The first is called REPEX, it will keep ticks off you, pretty sure it's a special order item, I got it when working for conservation. The second is DEET-EX and is available from Wally World, I thik it's even better than REPEX.

After every ride get a loved one, or hooker to check you out, so when winter comes your still smart enough to ride a Poo or Doo!!

Drop a woodtick into a jar of water and watch it float. Drop a woodtick into a jar of water with a few drops of dish detergent in it and watch them sink to the bottom and die.
Comes in handy when you taking them off your pets.

Yup, that's the best thing to do if you have dogs that get lots of ticks. Put them in a jar of water after you pick each one off, don't just throw them because in about 30 seconds they will have crawled back and probably be back on you dog!
Never tried the dish soap though..... but keep the lid for the jar handy because they will try to climb out!

Saw the first tick today on my dog's lip!!! There alive and on the crawl now!! A lot of coniferous (needles) out here though, and they don't like them..... only grass and decidous (leafs) trees.
And the ticks aren't all that crazy!! It's not as if as soon as you walk into the bush you are bombarded by them!! You might get one or two on you if you go for a walk, and you can feel them crawling on you, so just pick 'em off!! But if you plan on rolling around in the grass and climbing the trees, that could be a different story!! LMAO

I bought this stuff in Austraillia called Bush Mans bug repellent its amazing...!!!! Mosquitos and ticks seem to hate the stuff,it seems to put a invinsible shield around you. I put it on in the swamp and everyone around me was mosquitos free aswell. I mountain bike and quad in harsh environments and have only had 1 tick and 0 mosquito bites this year,I got the tick cuz I forgot my Bush Mans, now I never leave home without it. Really though its a tick, cut its legs off and its screwed.

And you can't just squish them to kill them!! You need to burn them or really smash them up with a rock or something. When they are filled with blood and about the size of a grape, you can just squish them and they will explode!! I wouldn't suggest burning one full of blood, because when they blow up, the hot blood shoots far!!! Through them in a fire pitt and some of them sound like small gun shot! LOL

kman were do you get this product? We just moved to a acreage last fall and seems like the ticks have made our place there favorite hunting grounds. I was on a business trip for one week and when I came back yesterday I pulled over 115 ticks off my small dog about 25 of them the size of grapes. What a horrible site that poor dog was. He's Lucky to still have any blood left in him and I bet he still has a couple dozen small ones crawling around his fur. definitely getting a short cut for the summer.
if anyone has great Ideas to keep ticks off of dogs please let me know.

Best thing to do is make sure your dog is up to date with shots as well, because they can spread disease. We used to live out by Seddons Corner, and they were so bad there that nothing worked. Just keep on top and check the dog every day.

you can also get some tick stuff at walmart for a fraction of what the vet will charge you - same stuff and works good too...our dogs used to get them really bad until we started using the oil. we'd put one drop at the neck and one at the tail...
