There is a derby in Piney on April 30th. I understand they have a ATV trailer they are selling tickets on. I will try to get a picture of it and post it. The derby in Piney is more bush trail riding through pines than in mud. Ask JB about the type of trails, he is from out them parts.

Piney is about 2.5-3 hours from Kenora. The quickest way is to turn on PR308 at East Braintree and come to Sprague. Then turn on #12 Highway. Pioney is 17 miles from Sprague.

We rode the trail for the derby this weekend. It is 50 miles plus or minus 2.( NO GAS STATIONS ON TRAIL) Not much mud, 95% of the trail is on bush trails through pines, trail goes through 2 gravel pits. Lots of water and mud in the last pits east of Piney.
Registration is from 10-3 at the community center. They also have a table to draw all cards at the center. Food available on trail and back at the community hall all day. There is also a social that night.
They community center is also raffling a trailer to pull behind an ATV.

Hope they have a nice day and good turn out for this derby.

Piney sounds like an interesting area. Unfortunately my wife's b-day is the 30th, so going is out of the question. Anyone have a map of the area where the trails are open to ATV's? I'm thinking I'd like to check it out despite not making the derby.

Just go there and get lost, bring a GPS and don't forget to mark where you parked the truck. Then at the end of the day turn on the GPS, set a Go/To on the trucks and let the GPS bring you home. Works like a charm. Check your route when you get home and I bet it will be as straight as possible.

Piney is located in the South East corner of MB. approx. 25 miles from Roseau, MN (home of Polaris) and about 5o miles S.E. of Steinbach on # 12 Highway. It is about 130 miles from Kenora if you don't mind driving on gravel roads. Mapquest.com has directions.

The tickets are $3.00 EACH OR 2 FOR $5.00
The trailer is a complete seperate draw.

if you have your machine registered and insured it's all good. running w/o plates is always risky.

Mooseman
04-24-2005, 11:58 PM
Sounds like a good plan. Is there going to be a dry and wet run? I hate to say it but I may have to avoid deep water until I get this water/diff problem worked out.
Any ideas on the trails Tooler??

:woot:
Mm

Tooler
04-25-2005, 09:16 AM
:welcome: The trail in Piney will not have lots of mud or water. A 2wd machine should have no problem making the run. 95% of the trail is trough the pines on logging roads or bush trails. The run is about 50 miles with no gas stations at checkpoints. There is lots of water in the ditches east and west of Piney so if guys need to get muddy they can. The trail also goes by the pits east of town. There is a big clay hole with water at the pits. Watch out because there is some deep holes in the clay pits.

The diner in Zhoda has been closed for a number of years now. You have to stop in Steinbach or go to Shakers Inn in South Junction which is east of Piney 8 miles or so, along hwy 12. They have a CO-OP gas station there as well. I look forward to meeting you all!!

Not sure if we'll make it for breaky. CW has to do some councillor stuff before we go. We have to get up early then we're going straight after he's done. We'll try but no guarantee's. If we don't see you at shaker's we'll chat at Piney.

What a GREAT derby! the trail was just long enough. The derby was mostly run through senic bush trails with the odd strech of road here and there. There was also a few mud pits / ditches for people to play in if they were in to that kind of thing.. Dust was not too bad thanks to the moisture that we recievd in the last couple days.

This Derby was very well marked and well organized.. You can count on me being there agian next year!!

Thanks to all those who put in the effort to make this derby happen!!! GREAT JOB!

Great meeting and seeing everyone again!!

Anyone take any pics?? I got a few, going to through them up in the gallery soon!! I will create a catagory for the derby so if anyone else has pictures they can put them there as well!

dito!! the crew that puts this derby on is on the ball.markers everywhere caution signs, stop signs...i don,t think i got out of 5th gear through out the trails dang near every bump was marked. sand /gravel pit was fuuun. and the last hole just before piney took me by surprise....didn't think it was that deep...wow belly button deep. got off the trike and bobed up to the surface i pulled it while it was floating to the higher ground....that was cool! so many weeds in that hole it was hard to pull so i fired it back up and let the lites paddle for a bit...crazy!every stop i took there were trackshare folks introducing themselves....were a big bunch!

If you guys get to go in the pits at Seddons corner when you are on the westside ride tomorrow you will get to see some flying plastic. Those pits are good! I hope everyone takes it easy. It is not for the faint at heart!! Greasy side down!

The community center and all members would like to thank everyone who attended the ATV derby in Piney. The total number of hands was 802. The ATV trailer was won by a resident of Vita. Once again thanks to all and hope to see everyone again next year. If anyone has suggestions to make this derby better you can PM me and I will relay the info.

MORE HOTDOGS!!!!

Good times though!!! I had a couple of friends visiting from San Fransico and I don't think the girl has ever gotten even her nails dirty before. She got stuck right in the middle of the second mud pit and was it ever funny watching her try to get off the quad and get two booters... She survived the whole trek though and she thinks people in Manitoba are crazy!!!

That's what I like to hear...

:woot: :woot: Piney ride was great. Nice to meet some of you guys. Still don't know everyone but it was a start. Wife loved it. Next year will bring the kids and their quad. Also need to get the wife her own can't borrow all the time. Trail was nicely marked. Didn't finish the run with you guy because one of my club members was alone and we teamed up with him after MMC had to get going. See you guys in St-Malo. Wife, my 3 kids and myself will be there. The other two kids will be baby sat. Have a ggod one.  :woohoo: :woohoo: :friday:

Nice to meet you straight pipe and others. SP watching you in that ditch floating your trike was crazy man. Took a bit of convencing, but I got that guy in the blue 700 Ranger to give the ditch a try, he didn't do so good. Who was the guy on the black King Quad?? Man that thing made that ditch look like a puddle. I, along with Big Dog, would also like to thank every one from Track Share for coming out to Piney. This is their major fund raiser, and thanks to you all, was a great success!! We had around 600 hotdogs at the tower and they will have more next year for sure!! Thanks again to all that attended.
i don't know who he was but that was impressive!! seemed like everyone needed to be winched but him...i wish i could have talked to him... he would make a good addition to this site.i got to ride a brute for the first time in the gravel pit...wow! i want one. nice to meet you too hot & big dog.job well done! :beer3:
