Hey I am very new to the site and new to MB, not sure if this is a regular thing but I am looking for some basic 4x4 camp sites. we just dont want to camp with the riff-raff. must be water front of course but other then that . . .

we moved here from BC and have a ton of great sites there to share if anyone would like, within 2hrs of Vancouver

as well if anyone knows of a map book that would be very good

Back Roads Map Book of Manitoba is a starter. The Sandilands is probably a good place for you to try camping. Beware in Manitoba we have MOSQUITO'S that can pick up a human being and carry them away.

You wont get nearly the scenery as BC, and I'm pretty sure that access to 4x4 (SUV/pick up truck) opportunities are very slim in this province.

I know you asked about Manitoba, but highwind lake in Ontario was my favourite. Maybe2.5 hrs east of winnipeg. Check some of the previous posts on highwind great place

They are bad indeed, but up here in the north, we catch them at an early age and train them :action-smiley-073:to "airlift" us out of the bush when we break down...lol

Thanks for the heads up on the local prey birds, I have been looking into Duck and Highwind. Do these two places or others around 2-3 hrs from wpg have drive up waterfront that ISN'T paid we like it to be more on the unorganized side of things. Just a side road then trail and then water with a clearing big enough for a tent right by the water.

In Van we could drive 40mins hwy then 40 mins logging road and have a choice of about 30 beach sites, would love to find something like this

If anyone knows of these type places please share gps or MAPBOOK directions

As I come across a few gems I will share aswell, we go out most weekdays as the wife and I have non 9-5 m-f jobs

Thanks for the info so far, please keep it coming, and thanks to those that have PM'd

The best way to deal with Manitoba mosquitos is a 10 ga. Goose Gun! I did this and now have a "skeeter" head mounted on my wall.
