Well marchand in general is pretty wet right now. However the trails system out there are through allot of the Sandy soils which soak up the water like a sponge. so if you want to head out for a dry ride it is always possible to do so out there.
Now as for the derby same thing applies however they always aim the derbies toward the mud holes BUT there is like 95 percent of the time a marked way around the bad stuff. This derbie is great for the begginer and the hard core mudders as well. No matter what your skill level is marchand is a great place to ride !
On another note please do be carful riding out in this area if you are planing on going out for a saturday ride any time this or any year. As on any trail it is easy to get lost but i think most would agree that Marchand/sandylands is easy to get confused in because thay have thousands of different trails to ride on and if you think your just going to head back down the same trail you went on you might get confused from all the trail crossing out there. A gps is the best to have out there to find your way around but don't rely on technology. Always have a backup and ride safe !

I was wondering if the trials are still really wet, I too have a novice rider with me and she is not up to wet swampy trails yet. Are there paths around the mud holes, or is it straight through. Because if that is the case we may have to wait until things dry up a bit. I know this question has been asked before but you know as well as I do things can change fast when it comes to trail conditions.

Your wife would have no problems out her now MM. We rode out there lsat weekend and the trails are nice. The odd mud unless your looking for the deepstuff then you can find it too. But for a new driver there is no problem for them to tackle . If you come to a hole in the trail where your wife feels uncomfy to drive through. you can alway just drive it throught for her. and continue on.

Thanks Ramco I tell her, maybe we'll head down there sometime this week to give it a try before the derby. Hopefuly the rain won't make the trails worse!
The forcast doesn't look dry.

You know what. It can rain cats and dogs and 3 hours later you can drive marchand and the trails be dry because it's all sand. Hence "Sandilands provincial forest" . Unless you aim for the swamp areas then your in for some mud if you want. But as long as you stick to the high areas you can ride all day and not see water.

I've said it before and i'll say it again LOL
MArchand is sand, It can rain 4 inches tonight and you can go for a tomorow and ride dry trail all day.
But if you choose you can also find the low spost where all the water went and swim all day as well.

We'll the trails out in marchand really suck right now. Last saturdays storm hit hard there with 2 tornado sighting and has blocked every stinking trail we could find with large amounts of fallen trees. Not just a tree here and ther but piles of them for miles and miles. Even on quads we where forced to turn around on several trails and on most trails it just beat the heck out of our bikes bangin through the bush getting around. i have never been so hard on my bikes plastics and tires as i did on my ride out there. For me and my favorite riding area from the Marchand Ranger station to bedford pits to the town of sandilands to woodrige this years ridding is out untill theses trails are cleaned out and i have no idea how this will happen. They will i assume have to send heavy machinery though allot of the ski trails and so on the get them cleaned out.
However if a person rides the the north east area from the 210 highway to woodrige that ares seems fine. There is not as many used trails out there and maybe a little harder to get anywhere but tons of fun yet. Allot more swamps and stuff to get around though.

If someone is organizing a work party - count me in. Wait till its a tad cooler though and lets get at it. I don't really need the wood but might take a load home for a neighbour.
Just wondering if any of these trails are Snoman Trails and if some of the local club ( if there is one ) members would be willing to lend a hand ? :wtf: This is where ORV intrests should be compatible and serve the purpose for both parties.
- keep me posted !!

Well guys, here is another thing... If we go and help... maybe someone could mention it to a little brid and get it thrown in the local paper, that a bunch of ATVers on there OWN time and WILL, went out and cleared XXX amount of trails... which include some of the snowpass trails... maybe some guys on snowmobiles would lighten up around us, and wouldn't mind sharing the trails in the winter..... just a thought....

I wouldnt' get to excited about going to help clean up just yet. With the amount of fall down the foresties department might kick in and and collect the trees for wood products. Not all the trails they will do but the more major ones.
ANd if your thinking of collecting some for fire wood you would need a permit for that and if you took some there is a good chance you'll get fined.

Ramco, thats a possibility i guess... but... who owns the land... crown correct... i think the forestry departments will clean up the fire roads and by the power lines... but not all the little trails that we use and snowmobilers.... as for permits and such, that could be obtained... but for the most part we could go inthere cut them and then place them all on the side, or juist in the bush, and we certain permits are obtained.. then haul away!!! i don't really need the firewood, but it was an idea.. maybe a reward for cleaning up the trails... since we aren't getting paid by the government or anything.... or go and clean them all up and send the government the bill.. hahahaha just kidding...

while since most of these trails are cross county trails in the winter. I'm sure the skiers will get on the government's case to clean things up.
P.S hey Ramco if you need help to clean up around your yard or on your favorite trail let me know and I will come help you.

YA lets hang on a bit. My dad has been a logger out there for most of his life and i rembember last time a storm like happened forestry hired southeast foresty to clean it up.I was driving our tree farmer down those trails picking up trees aswell then too. And yes fire roads where priority so they will be done and more then likley are already done. allot of those trails like already mentioned are the hiking and ski trails and they will also be cleaned up. But yes there is allot the trails that are sled and atv trails that will be left up the puplic to clean up and i think it would be great if we all pitched in one day with some saws and bikes. And yes that would help gain a little respect for the atv sport.

The wife and I took a little trail ride on Saturday and only got 8 miles down the main sled trail from the ranger station.we had to turn around becuse of too many trees across the trail. Three hours to go a total of 16 miles. Since I am an avid snowmoblier and often use these trails I will be out agian to try and help clear the trail.Pictures hopfully attached.

well... if we are realy interested in doing this clean up.. then lets do it... we should plan for some time near the end of september... (fisrt weekend of October fits me best)this will give us time to get any permits that we might need as well as give whom ever, or wich ever dept that is actually responsible for this time to get some work done...in addition, it takes us into cooler temps...I will take care of PR and contacting radio news papers and television...someone (likley who lives in the district) should be calling the RM or what have you in order to determine any requirments for permits... in addition, any costs or subsidy for costs for the permits, I dont think we should have to pay... and would think that we should be able to get a few sled and cycle shops to kick in some cash if need be...

well my thoughts are to help with the mergency first and get the town done than point our saws at the trails. i'm sure if we get a dozen bikes and saws this will not take long.ans i have a bud with a 4x4 kabota tractor that may be interested in helping as well.

well for permits misery you need those from resources to be able to take any of the wood.... other than that your allowed to cut up the trees if there fallen (jsut cant take without permits) most home owners out there might burn wood so you can just leave it on lot but if you wanted to bring home you need a fire wood permit from resources and they need to know what area, what kind of wood and how many cords.. then you buy a permit.. unless they do something different in these cases...
Ramco
08-08-2005, 08:07 PM
Optimas dead on with the permit thing. To cut the wood and move it off the trail is no big deal. Now if someone wanted to take some wood they would have apply for a permit and allot of those area's are already takin under another thing called a quota which is owned by loggers giving them first rights to the wood. my dad use to own quota out there and if anyone was ever caught taking wood off his quota section with out persiion was in serious DOO DOO.
Now back to the trees laying around. Talk is already taking place and sounds like foresrty/resources is going to g and clean up all the fallen trees areas. So for a bunch off people to just go start cutting the trails open might just tick them off because there going to use skidders and other tree farming machiney to clean it up and they dont want to start cleaning up little pieces cut with a chain saw. It Gets to costly to run the machines and the loggers don't make money and these cleanups are no money maker all ready as it is for the loggers. Trust me .. i have been loging with my dad for 20 years and have been through this before in the same area.
Now i am not tring to be negative about this great idea to help out,, But this is not a storm in the City or a town. There a little more to consider then us just wanting our trails cleaned up .. so before anyone gets crazy on cutting up trails and so on,, a person needs to contact Sadilands council or the rep for for disaster in that area and see whats what.
AS for the Towni agree with SP .. Aim those saws for the town first... My parents took a little trip down to the town of sandilands yesterday and it still looks pretty bad out there. seems like ther still in a bit of a mess. I heard that the Steinbach lumber yards had there trucks out there hjelping to haul out treess and so on so there might be a immidate need for help out there right now . I'm sure if someone wanted to load up and head to the town there would be someone gladly taking your help..
For Immidiate town cleanup see thread http://www.trackshare.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3001

This was in the local news today , Seems kinda dumb .. Almost like they have no idea what happened out there. or there talking about the very close trails to town that i have no idea where they are.
People from Marchand seem to like what has been done with some of the trails in the area. The Seine Rat River Conservation District spent time last summer cleaning them up and making them more accessible for four-wheelers. Summer student Corey Hoshowski says last year the RM of La Broquerie approached them about turning the Marchand nature trails into a park. The Conservation District received a grant from Manitoba Conservation for the project. Hoshowski says since the improvements there has been a lot more activity on the trails.
