The RM of La Broquerie is asking the public to stay away from one of its rural parks. Reeve Marielle Wiebe says the location and ownership of the Marchand Wilderness Park has been questioned. She explains council has been informed the park was built on crown land and not on municipal property. Reeve Wiebe says liability is a major factor noting the La Broquerie can't insure the site if its not on property owned by the RM. Council has passed a motion to close the park until this matter can get sorted out. Reeve Wiebe says they are exploring the possibility of re-opening the park at some point. But at this time she is asking for public cooperation in staying away. She notes the park was built prior to this council taking office so there are not a lot of answers as to why this happened.

Sounds kind of silly to me. If it is built on crown land, their is no liability to the RM. Sounds more to me like a political scam to gain possesion of the property the park is sitting on. Should we not go on any crown land? Am I not understanding this correctly?

Make sure you read the comments guys and gals, interesting read. Sounds like Marchand is getting it in the but. Made me angry to read what people had to say. More angry to read what the last person wrote. Rm's have insurance for being sued. That covers that liability. Unless I'm wrong, if the RM owns the land, their insurance covers them, If they do not own it, they are not liable. Thats how it works for our town and our local park. For those humming and hawing on this, the RM office has all the papers saying who owns what. It gets updated every year. Takes two seconds to look at that land description and see that it is crown, or Rm owned. At the very most, it would take a land survery to see if some part of the said property is off a bit. Doesn't take to much brains to call a serveyor and get this sorted out. Should only take a week tops.

While I'm venting......

I had no idea the community club was shut down. I went their and couldn't figure out where the people were for the derby. Before they decided to shut it down, correct me if they did this, the RM should of gave a time period for repairs and offered help financially to do so. As long as the facility is being used, that should be a minimum. What happened here is bull shit. In a small community like this, man power is free, it's just material cost. For a building like that, minus the man power, I can't see it costing $50,000 to repair. you could almost build it for that. If Marchand wants to repair this building, they can have my time for free. For those that live there, look into this. Lots of trade people in the area that would be willing to offer time I'm sure.

Bottom line, I don't live in Marchand, I don't even live in the same RM, and this has me pissed!!! More so the community club issue, This Reeve needs a ass kicking! Sounds to me like the aggenda is to do away with a small town and screw the people who live there. These actions decrease the property value of homes in that area, and lowers overall moral.

Well I guess I didn't know neither. I went here this past weekend. All the signs were gone and the road was blocked at one point. Someone had opened it up.The concillor from Marchand had come by to look at the water. He said someone had started something about the water in the swim hole. People of Marchand are pissed and a petition was being started. Sems like some bad politics happening.

Man talk about a slap in the face for the hard working guys who built this place. Well if is on crown land than there shouldn't be anything stopping us from using it...if this is truth it belongs to everyone. But I do hope that Marchand can strike an agreement to keep it looked after.
