So I let my wife ride the Brute and a new 400HO Polaris through Big Valley this weekend. She wants one now. I like the mid size popo. It'd double as a good kid's bike too. It has IRS and a auto locker in the front. They are also cheap to buy. I hate the crappy made in USA fit and finish though. I have little experience with the smaller bikes and don;t know what to buy her. I like the small physical size of the Yami's as well but I only know one guy with one. I think our dealer here is a bit shady....

Look obviously they bleed blue. Ask T2 how her brakes are or lack of brakes. I'm not saying Polaris is god sent but yes it is a nice package and a lot better priced then the Kodiak. Ask mongral what he thinks of his, dam good motor in it and the brakes will not seize like the Kodiak and start fires. If my opionion counts I like the new 450 sportsman. I also would consider the 400 or maybe 450 susy or cat.
I love my poo but there not for everybody. A lot of people here are one sided. I like to look at alternatives there are a lot of chooses in smaller bikes other than Yamaha or Poo's. Do your homework but in the end it comes down to what your wife is comfortable with not you or anybody else on here.
Let her decided.

My Kodiak issues were due to my error - not the machine. Have you ever heard of anyone else's brakes doing what mine did? I haven't.
Polaris machine's are heavy - everyone knows this. Some people don't care but some do.. like you said, it's all in what she is comfortable with.

I would not recommend a small bike - she will likely want more power in a year and then you're having to try to re-sell an already used machine...better off going to 450 or 500 right off the bat. JMO

What error? Not trying to start anything, just want to know what the difference is between your machine and others out there. Something about your foot peg filling with mud????? How about the clutch? What happened there?????

PX3 was saying about the brakes - I had put off replacing them and yes, the foot break filled with mud and held it on - you'll find that on a lot of machines - they just need to change how the foot brake works and/or sits - either that or tell people to stay out of the red river gumbo :-)
What about the clutch? It filled with mud last summer - no problems with it since. Again, Robin went through the exact same spot as me and his machine was fine.
Hmm, maybe it's the rider and not the machine... lol
Anyone else notice it's JUST the Polaris owners that are jumping on my Yamaha? I don't think anyone can say yamaha's aren't good machines - same could probably be said about Polaris' but I won't ever own one. :-) To each their own.

Whoa there Cheeko...back the truck up!!! I wasnt saying anything bad about Yamis. I personally dont care which brand anyone drives. They all have their good/bad points. I was just asking about what happened to your bike. You said it yourself that it was user error. I just wanted to know what it was. Was not dogging on you or your bike.
About your clutch, I can honestly say that I've never heard of one plugging up with mud inside. You musta had a leak or something.
geeze, you gotta relax a tiny bit....:sweatdrop: I dont think anyone is trying to throw you or your machines to the wolves!

Both tandr2's Yammi's and their rider's seem to be doing just fine on any ride they go on from what I've seen. - great bike all around.

Are the 400 shifters better now. Those just always seem to break for some reason. Dont know about the 500, but it seems like a nice bike.

I have not heard of any breaking for some time now on the 400, I believe that problem is long since fixed. I sure like my 500 Max, the power in that 500cc Rotax is unreal for a 500.

Out of the 4300 miles mine got before the shifter broke...that's not too bad, and considering it's only a $20.00 part it's not a big deal anyway. Every quad has their flaws, but honestly I have to say the Poo's are pretty bad when it comes to any kind or front bearing work etc. and just have a bad reputation all around, and that's not just me talking I heard that long before I ever got back into the sport.
Get her to ride a few different bikes and see what she likes....she has to ride it.

The brakes on the older Kodiaks always squeak after mud riding.Had to make sure it's cleaned out after lots of mud riding.Yamaha hated complaints of "Kodiak brake squeak" from hard core mudders so the new ones have a sealed wet break. Also the new Kodiaks I noticed have sweet cv boot guards that are put on with the axle assembly.
