2004 Sporstman clutch kits install

I am going to try to do my clutch with a clutch kit but I have a few questions I am having a hard time finding the answers for.

I found a "youtube" how to change the clutch parts, but I noticed on another post and in the video that there are differnet ratios/springs that you should consider.

Anyone have any input or recommendations on which toy use or brand ( I seen EPI seems to be a popular brand)? I am a basic trail / mud rider.

As well I see that you need a spring compression tool. Has anyone tried without the tool? Are they cheap to buy( seems like a one time use for me)? Or would this be something to take to a shop for?

Thanks for any ideas or help

Going to just repair and stay stock for now.

Anyone have a polaris Clutch extraction tool I could rent? They are $56.99 and I would rather not but one if possible.

I got a puller that is for my 99 XC500 that should work but I'm not 100% sure. Also I made a spring compressor tool out of threaded rod, nuts, washers and a bent piece of metal in the shape of a u? What area of town do you live in

your xc tool will not work I know I have both for that reason. If you need to take the spider off I have the tools for that too. If you just replacing weights and arms you can leave the clutch on and just take the cover off. 6 bolts it comes off. think there 10mm re torque at 100 inch pounds.

the one on the left is the sled tool the one on the right is the quad tool

If it is just a thump it may just be your belt has a worn spot in it steve. Try it before you go spend money you don't have too.

FatCat Do you think the one for my 09 xp 850 would work. It looks like the one in you're picture. Bluenoser I'm in west k. If my puller for my xp will work then you could still do the clutch kit if you were interested.

Do I need the tool to inspect the clutch to see what or if I need to replace? Watched a video from EPI looks like as you said I can just open the front plate but will that give me a good view of all the moving parts?

you can inspect it on the bike. just got to inspect for wooble. if that's the case the front cover bushing will need to be changed and possibly the buttons on the spider. For that you may have to take it in. I could do it but I really not the expert when it comes to that. I can replace weights and weight shafts that's as far as I can go. I think others are better at this than me. If they could chime in here and help you out that would be great. Your more than welcome to my puller. The rest I leave to those who know better than me.
