2002 Polaris Sportsman 700 Rear Axle advice.
Hey TS gang,
I have a friend with a Polaris Sportsman 700. The build date on it was 05/02/2002. I was told this is very important as Polaris has switched axle mfg a few times on this model. He would like to replace the rear axles competely. What axle would be good or better then OEM, and at a reasonable price. Gorilla, Moose, _______,_______,_______. As far as axle replancement, I have only done my boots, so I am not in the "know". I know he is running stock tires, not a mud monster, and his atv is general use. Some mud, some trails, some farm. Looking for some advice, please chime in! Thanks everyone as always, Shoe. |

i used to run an 02 700 as well. Believe it or not, Casterland in winnipeg used to sell aftermarket axles for them.....straight direct fit from older Ford Festiva cars. I know it sounds nuts, but they were indestructible. Not sure if they still do this, but it was a direct replacemnt that would work in that generation SP.

And the winner for the most unique answer goes to JB! LOL!
Do you know what year of Festiva it was? I told my friend about it, and he is comitted to getting those axles! More for the story than anything else! LOL. Thanks everyone for chiming in! Shoe. Last edited by Shoemaker; 08-03-2012 at 07:11 AM. |

Lol! That is a good answer! I don't recall this but i can't say its not true either. Paul is on holidays in the bush camping so I can ask him to confirm or deny this claim. We'll have to wait and see.

I have heard of the fiesta cv's as well, but were modified by some guy on Ont. most likely for length. They replaced stock ones that would constantly explode the cups, and completely solved the problem.

Yes, probably quite unique...lol. Thought it was the festiva's from the early 90's that fit right into the popo's. And i'm even pretty sure i called casterland back in the day looking for an axle like this cause i as well, was told of these axle solutions, and was looking for one, but they never had any in at the time. Unless someone was getting their wires crossed..lol. O well, something worth looking into i guess.....i know it was alot cheaper than buying a replacement from polaris. Sure thought somebody on here would remember this back from the older quadding days.....sure wouldn't make me sound so crazy???..lmao Really not making it up....pretty sure this was done back in those days. O well, if u can access an axle like that, and check to see if it's a direct fit, even the boots, you will have one heck of a story...
