Obtaining class 3 license

Hey fellas, so I got a job offered I can't refuse, but it requires me to have a class 3 with air. What is all involved in obtaining this? How long on average does it take to get?

If you can already drive a truck of this type (air shift/air brakes) then grab a book from DVL and study it, book your test, arrange for a truck (farmer's grain truck), ensure all lights/brakes/electrics work before showing up and get it done. Or you can pay $1000+ and take a course but if you can already drive...

And make sure you get you pretrip down pat, helps if you have someone who can show you what they are looking for, the air side of the pretrip has to be to the t in order but the rest isn't as picky, just supposed to do it in a order that makes sense for example checking things as you go around the truck, you can miss 3 things on the pretrip but nothing involving the air, you can get the learners quick but they require 2 weeks before you do the practical and the sooner you book the practical the better as they often have another wait, at least in winkler, the actual driving is almost the same as with a regular vehicle, just did mine last spring so I still remember it all, pretty easy if you know what they are looking for, I have a sheet from a failed attempt that shows what they are looking for if you want to borrow or have it to practice with

that failed attempt sheet is worth alot !
i know of a few guys that did things in just the wrong order and failed
should make a PDF of that sheet and post it.
i have one too, from my brother who screwed up just slightly
and he was going on what they had posted on the net for study !
but they changed it LOL
he used that failed attempt sheet and flew through it.
study and repetition and youll be fine.

if you can get a truck and trailer, just make your class 1's right away.
same BS, just pull a trailer around with you.

Max Power will become famous soon enough
You will need to practice your pre trip for both truck and air. You should have someone experienced help you with this and expect to spend about 4-6 hours practicing these to get it down pat. I did mine and got it first try but I litterly spent about 4 hours doing it over and over. You won't pass if you just read the book a few times and go take the test.

Take your class 1 while you are at it. You will likely need it someday and its almost no more difficult than your class 3 with air.

Received the sheet, thanks again! I'll be considering getting class 1. Im going to be headed out to Saskatchewan to run a VAC truck, and I'll only need class 3 with air. Prob good idea to get 1 though.

Take those quizzes until you ace them. They are word for word what you will see on your written exam (at least they were 9 years ago when I got my license). Then when/if you pass, get someone you can trust to go driving with you and you should pass no problem.

If you're going to the patch to run a Vac truck, you might aswell get your 1. That way (if the company trusts you, and you're good) they'll let you pull a quad behind it. Thats where the big bucks really are.
