started on monday around here, need to go fill an elk tag this weekend and then caribou next weekend before I think about deer!

The bear tags we got this spring they didn't ask for our hunter safety cards. Even at the conservation office when we got our caribou tags they didn't ask for them either. I think it will be while hunting that you will need to have the card with you.

Re: Hunter Safety Cards

Scroll down to the bottom of the page: http://www.gov.mb.ca/conservation/wi...g/changes.html

In speaking with an NRO last year it is my understanding that while it does state you are required to possess a Hunter Safety when purchasing a license....the enforcement end will take place in the field.

In other words.. as of this year, you are required to present one if/when asked by an NRO same as the hunting license itself.

We have a urban deer season here for archery, so I've set up my tree stands at our shop. 2 bigger bucks out there so I'm hoping for a crack at one of them. If not, then I have a buddy who drew a moose tag north of Ear Falls and we'll be headed that way on the 22nd. Good luck to all and safe hunting!

I am very excited for this season, just got the APA restrung and it's dealy accurate on the 3D. My brother in law set me up in an amazing spot, the best spot I've been since I started archery 3 years ago. I still haven't recorded a bowkill but I've passed on many deer. This is the year, I can feel it.

you need it when you buy your licence from the vendors, can tire, walmart, cabelas, etc, no card no licence.

Right...but like bowkill posted, some have been able to buy their license already without being asked to show the card. Probably just a matter of who is working the counter at that moment and to which store you go to.

Just make your own at home. A stupid rule with an ez fix. I got mine as a certificate 25 years ago in ontario. In order to get my first license I had to turn it in and they stapled it to their copy of the license so now what? Their isn't even a place for the issuer to write it on your license. BTW the rule says nothing about carrying the card while hunting so they can't enforce anything that way.

Hunt safely and legally and tell the gov't to stick it!

this is right out of the changes for 2012 in the hunting guide. I read it as you must have a hunter education card to buy a tag, it says nothing about presenting it when doing so. It also states you must be able to present it if asked while hunting by a NRO. Probably why they didn't ask for my card when i bought my bear tag and also at the Conservation office when i got my bou tags.

Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship, in 2007, introduced new licence eligibility requirements. Effective January 1, 2012 the same mandatory hunter education requirements that apply to all first-time hunters and everyone under the age of 19 will apply to everybody when purchasing a hunting licence. All hunters wishing to purchase any Manitoba hunting licence must possess a valid Hunter Education Certificate or equivalent from another jurisdiction or a card issue under subsection 4(4) of the Hunter Education Regulation MR 128/2007. In addition, when in the field or at any time, hunters must be able to produce their valid Hunter Education Certificate or equivalent when requested by a Natural Resource Officer.

it's all hit and miss.....i've bought licenses, and have yet to be asked for a hunter safety card.....sware to god, half the bigger places don't even have a clue what that is...lol. Just another piece of paper to confuse things even more....the big conservation guru's sure like to make more work for themselves though....pretty darn funny right there...

According to the NRO that posts over at ManitobaHunters you don't need to present it when buying a license. You only have to carry it with you in the field to present to any NRO that asks to see it.
