Timberwolf tracks
Got a question for the guys that know some stuff about tracking/hunting. Came across some monster tracks at Hillock. Would a Timberwolf track be say 5-6 inches around. Took some pics beside my wife's hand and the thing was almost the same size. Crazy didnt expect it to be that large. Ton of tracks at one of the lakes. I'll try to post pic. Not sure if you guys can make it out. Some reason it was really clear but the pic is crappy. The track is to the right about the same height as the hand.

Bet ya started to look around at your surroundings a little more closely after that!
![]() Had a few of them around me while I was bow hunting one year, 3 arrows & 6 dogs didn't make for good odds. I was on the dinner menu till one finally caught wind of me.![]() |

Not sure why people are scared of wolves. They are not interested in people. There has never been a recorded instance of a wolf attacking a human that was not provoked or wolf was partially domesticated.
Pretty cool pic. We have a family in the TM's. They are really neat to watch. They see you and watch you with just as much curiosity.

I was an executive member of the Lee River Riders snowmobile club a few years back. Two guys who broke down on the groomer & phoned for a ride but had to walk out to the highway to catch it. That was up where the trail crosses by the Bird Lake turn off. It was a full moon out and they had wolves follow them right out to the road, they were quite happy to get into a warm safe vehicle.
I'm sure the dogs were just curious to see if the foot steps they herd walking thru the bush were going to be the next snack or not. |

I saw one while hunting Caribou last fall. He was about a hundred yards off when I saw him headed towards me. All I was carrying where 2 Caribou hind quarters and no gun. I dropped them and headed back to my buddies who were about 200 yards behind me. Apparently he was just a spooked of me because he was gone by the time I got to where they were. Needless to say I was a little freaked out and carried the rest of the Caribou out carrying a loaded rifle as well. :)

I would be scared if I were carrying food to. I am scared of my beagle even when carrying food. It's Damn scary how he stalks me in the kitchen and right when you not looking he takes it fingers and all. In these guys case if I recall right dogs never like cats. One good reason to not drive a cat in wolf country. Alos don't drive a poo or door cause dogs like to roll in it. Since dogs don't like vegetables they don't bother yams. So all I am saying is yes a wolf is a Damn scary predator. And I have found two cases of wolf attacks and they are the only two wolf attacks documented and both correlate to wolves that have been groomed to people as dumping was near by and wolves no longer were scared of people. If wolves really wanted to hunt you, they would and you would not have a chance. They can run at 25 mph steady for 1 hour. They hunt in packs and not many guns have enough bullets to take them all down. Wolves get a bad rap for nothing. You are more likely to be killed by the gun your holding than by the wolf. Better chance of being killed by a shark than by a wolf and those chances are slim.

Lots of wolves around where I live, I'm not worried about them getting me so much as going after my dog when I'm in the bush with him. It sure gets the mind going sometimes when your by yourself and it feels like somethings watching you at night.
