Well I could be wrong on the source...that is what the local landscape company says....I have had mine for well over 8yrs and no rust...so could be from somewhere else.

This stuff is clean good product...3 landscape companies sell it regularly.

I used big 5'' slag from the mill on my driveway when I built let all the big trucks pound it in than topped it with lime stone, very hard base and no problems what so ever

I have a very solid base as well. I just like the look of grey/black than white limestone. Plus the edges are too thin and weeds grow up and piss me off. A man can only spray so much Round Up before he gets sick of doing it.

I was working at a place yesterday and the guy had slag on his driveway. A chunk of metal punctured the skid steers tire a caused some headache for the owner. Nice looking stuff, but I'm not impresses if that's something to worry about

All kinds of stuff in it. Trust me I make it. Wouldnt want it anywhere near my water table. I don't think it's all that cheap anymore either. I think they used to pretty much give it away but now they only sell it to a couple of trucking company's that runner mentioned.

The stuff I got is not sharp...nobby...if such a word. Metal itself has a bunch of nasty stuff in it as well...lol

I guess it depends on what they were producing to leave the slag.

Got it delivered and levelled last Friday. Guy at R&M was very helpful with spreading it.

It has already started to pack where we drive on it. I am wondering if I should rent a compacted and get the edges and the rest where we don't/can't drive.

Sent by me from here.

Can you tell me what you have for a base material and what preparations were necessary to get to the final finished product ?

Thanks.

My driveway is crowned so I had several area on the edges that were not thick enough and I had weeds galore coming up and I was sick of weeding and spraying. I put about 4" of slag down and debating packing it down.

To answer your question, I only sprayed Roundup on the weeds to kill them prior to laying the slag down. I have a thick base of limestone that is 4 years of packed down.

Thanks. I have a raised concrete edge on one side and nothing on the other. My driveway is "paved" - the pavement is in such poor shape I am contemplating digging it up, rebasing it, and perhaps using slag as you did. Your driveway looks great.

One more question - Does that material track ( ie: on the bottom of shoes etc etc ?? )

thanks...BLB

I live in St. Andrews and would not mind having a closer look at it before the snow flies.
