Late on this thread, but I noticed no mention of using a .17HMR. Thoughts? I'm sure that would easily drop a yote without any trouble.
I need to find a spot, whoever it was that said to drop by the local coffee shop where the farmers are at, I think that's what I'll do! I guess I could use my .270Win, but the .17HMR is lighter and I'm equipped with more mags etc for it

17 HMR is a bad choice for coyotes. Too small and too much margin for error. Chucks and prairie dogs yes, but definitely not dogs. 204, 223 or 22-250.

17HMR, might be an accurate little gun but it is too small to be a serious coyote gun for all but the closest shots. At 100yds that little 17 grain bullet barely has more than 100ftlbs of energy.
A 204 or 223 has 800-900ftlbs at that range.
