Spelling, Punctuation and Capitals.

Should people use proper spelling, puctuation and capitals when typing in a forum?

Or at-least make a half a$$ed attempted at it.

Generally I believe they should try and use proper spelling, punctuation and grammar, as it often helps to better convey the point they are trying to make in the post.

Here is my favorite example of why one should.

PS. This is just for fun....not to loose any sleep over.

Generally I agree with this, however I also recognize that everyone may be at a different level so always give the benefit of the doubt. Unless they're trolling.

I think most of the working stiff's on here use proper spelling all day at work and come to a forum just to act out a little to blow some steam off kinda way, spelling "ur" "dhat" are things we cant do at the 9 to 5

... like a lawyer that buys a Harley, at work he/she are white collar stiff, but on the bike with all the leather there bad a$$ bikers

I dont know, just my thinking .....

Punctuation makes reading a sentence much easier. Sometimes it just seems to be one gigantic sentence and I have to read it several times to figure out where the breaks should be or what the point is.

Not only should it be in forums but anywhere you need to convey a message.

My personal problem is that sometimes I dont reread what I typed and miss mistakes and then I look dumb.

OOOOHHHH I hate when that happens.

Yes! I think abbreviations like "ur" make you look stupid. Period. I can understand why some people do it: texting, typing on a phone, etc.. But I don't like it. I rarely proof-read or spell-check my posts, and have made typo's as well; but one typo in a paragraph of text is much easier to read than a whole nonsensical run on sentence.

And for God's sake, learn the difference between loose and lose; There, they're and their; etc..

And lets not forget hole and whole!

I think that if you are writing something of importance your spelling should be correct. On forums like this just try to get your point across the best you can, not all people excell in spelling and should not be made fun of.

Sorry CT! I didn't mean any disrespect; it just seemed funny to have a thread about the waning quality of the school system, with an obvious typo in it. I just had to!

Do you have Microsoft Word? Or something like it with a spell-checker? Ifso, write your response there, correct it, and cut and paste into the forum. Itwon't necessarily catch everything, but it'll get most.

I could quote just about all the posts on this thread, and you all make valid points. That is why the question is worded "attempt" good grammar. Not everyone went to school for 12 years to get an 8th grade Saskatchewan edumacation like me.

I agree that I have more trouble reading posts with no punctuation vs. spelling or capitals. And I am typing this on my phone, so there are probably mistakes in this post. Lol

An English professor wrote the words, “Woman without her man is nothing” on the blackboard and directed his students to punctuate it correctly.

The men wrote: “Woman, without her man, is nothing.”

The women wrote: “Woman: Without her, man is nothing.”

PS. The picture in the 2nd post is wrong. Hint: it has more to do with capitals, then punctuation.

No. 1. This is just for fun

No. 2. It says "make an attempt", not have perfect grammer.

PS. I ride everyday, Trackshare is my hobby, my hobby is not trying to figure out what someone is trying to say cause they can't atleast put "some" effort into their post. I don't expect it to be perfect grammer, hell, mine isn't but atleast I "try".
