Central Vac advice

So the Mrs. says she needs central vac in the house. I had one in the house I grew up in but I don't know much about them beyond that. Anyone have any any advice of what is good, bad or ugly?

Our house is 1600 ish sq ft and 2 outslets are rouged in upstairs. Want to have outlets on the main floor, basement and garage.

Our house was built, setup for it. We haven't bought one. I don't see the virtue of dragging a 25 foot long hose around and storing it. We have an upright that is powerful and compact, and only cost $199. A friend who bought central vac didn't buy a powerful enough unit, and he says the suction is weak. All that combined, and I'm not buying.

We have carpeted stairs to the basement and it's a bear using our heavy upright to vacuum it. Either I do it or I get the Mrs a central vac. Central vac it is! lol

Does your powerhead for carpet run just on suction or does it have it have an electric wire connected to it?

Good argument for the central vac then.
