Oil mixture!

I bought a boat last year and it came with 30 horse Mariner. The cover says oil injection but there is no oil tank on the motor so I have been mixing my gas..... I can't remember if I was mixing 40 to 1 or 50 to 1 last year but my motor was smoking alot and fowling spark plugs. My brother inlaw has a 30 Yamaha that is 100 to 1 mixture. This motor is Yamaha product (i think had a yamaha emblem on the mount). Didn't Yamaha make Mariner's at one point and Mercury make Mariners at another? I bought a Mercury/Mariner fuel hose end for the motor and it did not fit. Afterwards I seen a Mariner/Yamaha fuel connector so that must be the one I need.

The mount has a yamaha emblem and a number 68902

The numbers on the motor are:

Mariner 30EL0
689 L 417445
Made in Japan

Anyone have any clue what I should be mixing my gas oil ratio to?

here are a few pictures

Thanks, Shane

By your serial number I would say you have a 1986. Should be 50:1. Try a hotter plug?

You have a yamaha powerhead on that motor.Mariners ran yamaha powerheads in those model years.I know yamaha's ran 100:1 in the mid 80' till early 2000 models.Even 75:1 would be ok i would think. If it's smoking lot's then i would suggest a carb kit and a fuel pump kit to rectify over fueling.

Where would be the best place to start looking for more information on this motor?

Thanks, Shane

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Last fall motor ran good didn't fowl any plugs but was hard on fuel and didn't seen to have much power.... It would idle fun and run good just under powered... I have the motor on a 16 ft flat bottom so I would think it would push the boat no problem, actually thinking back to the first time I used it it did rip pretty good so I am wondering if I have a choke sticking or something.....

Thanks, Shane

I use Opti2 in my old machines and even old chain saw and ice auger. No worries of mixture synthetic and good to 100:1

Sleeper beat me to it. Run Opti 2 and you don't have to worry about what it should be mixed at. All your premix 2 stroke engines get gas from the same can whether they are supposed to be 20:1, 50:1 or 100:1. It also has stabilizer in it to.

I don't get it. If you run say 40:1 like in my sled and need 100:1 in saw. That mixture will work for both motors?

Yup, it is good for all mixtures and very low smoke. Plus fuel stabilizer. I have used for several years with no problems. I use in weed eater, old chain saw, ice auger and outboard but won't use on my new Stihl till 2 yr warranty over. Check out their website. http://opti2-4.com/index.php?dispatc...ategory_id=165
