KNN are JUNK. Stay away from them unless you want to rebuild your engine in the near future.

I have to agree about k&n being junk. Almost everyone i know running them has had to redo their motor. Had one in my preditor and that motor was smoking to in the end. May cost more in the end, but the factory filters seem better at catching all the dust . A few filters are cheaper than a rebuild.

i wouldn't use the k&n one. its a dry cotton filter. you need something that you can oil. my buddy has a blaster and it came with a k&n dry filter. we took the motor apart with my buddy who works for zuki and there was damage to the motor from running a dry filter. there were minor scratches and scuffs that were caused by dust getting past filter and going into the motor. so we got him a oil filter for st jean and you shoulda seen the filter when we got back. completely black! i couldnt imagine what woulda happend if he used just the dry filter.

I was lucky cause I changed it in time. Did some damage to it, but should be ok I hope. KNN is only really made for more air. It filters, yes, but it the small stuff passes through no matter if its oiled properly or not.

I was once a believer or KNN as well, until I saw for myself what happens past the filter.

agree... more air/less filtration.
In the sandilands dustbowl of fine dust/sand I lost a set of rings on a 660 in a matter of months on a brand new machine that had oil changes regularly, ran lightly, etc...
Lots of discussion on the internet about where/when these filters are great and when they are not so great.
And those that have been around the sport for decades can all point to a friend/buddy/maybe their own machine where maybe it was not the best add-on. As mentioned by others after a few months of use just take a look at the air intake after the filter to see what actually passes by.

What about the oiled K&N with outerwear pre filter... I have this on my Honda and am weary about continuing to use it. Haven't seen any build up on intake side if filter yet.

This is the setup I had on my RZR. You should see what it lets go through!! I cant see how KNN would actually praise their product. Seriously. Now, my current setup is that I have my KNN as a prefilter and the stock paper filter is just before the throttle body. Still lets alot though, but the paper keeps the rest from going through.

Check after the filter and see if yours is any good. Take a clean rag or paper towel and wipe the intake. If there is anything on the rag, I would get rid of that filter and stick to paper.

I have ran a kn filter on all my bikes and never an issue. I tore down my grizzly at 4000miles to install a bbk and the cylinder was near perfect condition. The biggest thing with in is getting them to seal. Everyone that has complained above has used a cylinder type filter. Those are prone to not sealing well. If you put grease around the lip it reduces the risk of untreated air slipping by. The panel filters for the 700 seal really well. I actually designed the prototype for in for the grizzly 700. Still have it too.

It is essential to use a kn if you going to run an exhaust like the Barkers to get all the power out of it. If not running a high flow exhaust then no sense switching filters.

When talking about oiled filters... Do you mean the foamy soaked in oil or the K&N/w red tacky spray on oil. My K&N uses the spray on red stuff... Does that not work well???

It works well to move alot of air through it, but extremely small particulate is also going through. A paper will filter better, but air flow is not as good.

The Wild Cat comes with a UNI type filter. I bought a spare to have ready after rides. I change it after every ride (cheap insurance) The filter from Cat was 58 bucks. I clean it with super clean and re oil it with bel ray foam oil. I found where the air intake is I may change it to a higher location along with the CVT intake. I'm not moving it to use my wild cat as a boat I just want to move it for dust.
