looking for sandbags, or packs of shingles

with winter coming up, ill be needing some sandbags or a few packages of shingles to toss in the back of my truck. anyone know where i can get sandbags? or have some old packs of shingles they wanna sell for cheap?

Use water softener salt ,bags are super strong and then sell the bags of salt come spring time.

just another quick question, so ill be using salt bags, how do you folks suggest i secure them over the axel? im not known to be a ***** footer (drive like a granny) i like to whip my truck around the odd time for shits and giggles.

so whats the best way to keep them from flying around. ive been trying to think up a way to ratchet them but cant think of a way that will keep them over the axle.

Get yourself a sheet of plywood, cut to fit the length of the box. Build a small box out of 2x4 or 2x6 and fasten to plywood over axles. Fill box with bags of salt, cut another piece of plywood to screw over 2x box to contain salt bags. Voila!! Bags secured and protected from the elements

gmm, good idear. i wonder how well MDF would stand up over winter. i have a TON of 3/4" MDF sheets just laying around.

^ haha good point! i think i shall go with the magical weight adding MDF!

not worried at all about it expanding and becoming useless afterwards. more concerned with if it will break apart and become useless during the season haha.

although im sure i can find some scrap plywood and 2x4's laying around. would just be ncie to get rid of some of the MDF

Go to PA and buy a racheting tie bar for the truck bed. They are 20-30 bucks and you always have it.

I once went to my local lumber yard and picked up 2 - 24"x24"x6" thick footing pads they were about 200 pounds each, worked great, in the spring I just returned them back to the lumber yard.
You could also use 18x18x6 pads they are about 75 pounds each

Thanks for the suggestions guy. Think ill just use salt. 44 lbs a bag and $5 a bag. And I can use it after winter for our water softener. Seems to make the most sense.

Some bed liners have a spot on either side of the wheel wells to slide a 2x4 in just for this purpose. FYI

Yeah, I don't have a bed liner though. Ill be making something today out if some scrap 2x4's and plywood.

I've done it too without the pockets in the bed liner with 2boards screwed together at a right angle to the cross prices. It's nice to keep tools or groceries closer to the tail gate or separated throughout the truck bed.

yeah i plan on making it with the main compartment with a lockable lid for the salt bags in winter, then whatever else i want in summer if i leave the contraption in the bed. also will make spots for gas cans to sit in, and tie down.

i have devised an elaborate system for keeping weight in place. involves lots of modern day techniques and computer aided designs.

lol just kidding. its just 2x4's and 2x2's nailed together. doesnt wiggle at all. have a tote that will fit in the open space and contain the weight.

ratchet straps and some cardboard bales (really cheap behind grocery stores in small towns lol) come spring time back up to the burn pit at the dump and chuck em out!
