It's way too warm but I'm heading out to the stand this evening anyway, you just never know what might walk by, and there are a few bruisers out there.

Question for all you seasoned veterans. This early in the season, has anyone had any luck with calling or scent attractants? Doe bleat maybe?

So last night I'm in the stand, only saw one little 3x3 300 yds away at around 6:30. Then at about 7:45 out comes a big black bear. He plunks himself down 30yds from my stand and won't leave. I tried yelling at him. Nothing. So I get down off the stand, with an arrow nocked I walk towards him waving my arm in the air yelling "HEY BEAR", again.......nothing, the prick just looks at me. So I put an arrow over his back then he finally runs off. He has been spotted on the trail cam before. on the same day, 3 bucks on the same camera, so I am hoping the dear are not too spooked by him.

Good job on the yotie. I've had fun in the stand so far, 3 nights, 6 deer and a bear. Last night I had a doe come by she had a fawn which is nice to see. No spots.

anyone out there shooting mechanical 2 blade broadheads? I'm shooting a Rage and was wondering if it makes a difference how you position the arrow in the rest, with the blades opening vertically or horizontally. I would think that you would want them to open vertically to pass through ribs easily. Also what position should the fletching be in? I"m using a drop away rest if that makes any difference.

the arrow is spinning so as per it striking vert or horz you won't know. I believe though you will want the blades the same on all arrows when knocked on the bow. That is usually the most important for tuning and consistency.

Thanks Bowkill, I forgot about the spin. I have already tuned my arrows so they are identical. Using the practice point that Rage supplies they all fly very nice, just about 1 inch lower than a regular practice point at 20 yds.

Has anyone finished their deer season early yet? I've been out the last few nights and seen deer both times just out of range behind trees. Heading out today in this nasty weather for a potential spot and stalk.

all kinds of action tonight. took a shot at a big doe, heard the smack, lumenock failed and did not light up. couldnt find arrow or blood, I thought it was a good shot now I'm second guessing myself. right after I shot, a big 4x4 cam within 20 yds stomped and walked away. I'm going back in the morning to look for her, lost light and called off the search. There was plenty of light when I shot, but the lumenock would have made a difference in trying to find it in the grass and leaves. this sucks.......probably won't sleep tonight.

Well. We found blood, followed the trail for about 200 yds then it just stopped. Did not find the arrow, I figure I shot low and back as I paced out the shot and it was closer to 30 than the 25 I thought it was.

it's not uncommon for them to be grouped up now. We had 7 deer together about 200 yards away yesterday in the field we were goose hunting on and they fed together and left together. Last year when I shot my deer during archery he was number 5 of a group of bucks that walked by together. It was late october and pre-rut signs were just starting in my area.

3 weekends in a row I've had 43 deer in the same field eating together one time and 17 two other times. But only one buck that I've seen. There not scared yet. I had 3 deer 25 yards behind me eating and 2 coyotes 300 yards out in front and let 2 shots rip with .243 and deer didn't move.

My cousin arrowed this buck at my place tonite. It was his first sit of the season. The trail cam pics I sent this morning may have got him motivated! His best deer so far. Biggest body on a deer that i've seen in a while. Tons of fat, deer herd in this area looks pretty healthy.

That looks similar to the buck I saw 1.5 miles NE of your place on Friday evening. Great animal to have a chance at.
