Wink Winch cables:

I just replaced my braided wire winch cable with a synthetic fibre cable and it's a pleasure to work with compared to the wire. Easy on the hands, no kinking and rated for 3000 lbs.

Synthetic is definitely the way to go.... no worries when it snaps, aside from the fact that it snapped....

What brand and diameter did you get? I was surprised it was only rated for 3K lbs. as I thought most standard 3/16" synthetic lines are rated for around 5K lbs.

Ton and half:

My new cable is 3/8", my winch is rated at 3000 lbs. so they are made for each other. Putting the cable on the empty winch spool is the trick; leave the cable fully out except for a loop or two then use the cable to pull the ATV to the hook while retarding the ATV with the brakes. The constricted cable can handle a greater load.
I purchased the cable from my BRP dealer, it came in a WARN? box.

x2 on the rope. I would add that it pays to stretch out yer cable occasionally and clean it as grit can wear it out prematurely. Makes it easier to extend when you need it, also.
