silverado trans trouble help!

So quickly to explain whats going on I have a 99 silverado was originally a 4.8 now has a 5.3 i bought it this way and it always had a bit of a hard shift into 2nd nothing to serious and still works fine now after hauling a small camper a few weeks back I have developed some kind of jump from third into over drive it only last about 3 seconds while shifting it feels really resistant like someone jumping in the box the whole truck shakes. If I gas it pretty good it immediately stops once the rpms are higher and the truck performs as usual once in over drive its just that short term jumping between 3 and od any one have any ideas? Thanks btw I tried a bottle of that lucas trans fix 20$ later and didnt do a thing Thanks!

Call GW transmission on the south perimeter and talk to Gordie. Or better yet go and see him.

It's probably actually the lock up coming on (TCC) shuddering.

At the very least, converter, at worst, pump & VB, basically, it needs a tranny. I have stock if you want to R&R it yourself.

The Wanderer sounds wright with the torque converter lock up. I have replaced a few for that reason over the years. Check for codes first. How does the fluid smell? If you rub it between your fingers, is it gritty?

yup, just did one in a 2006, doing the same thing as you described. best price i found was 1425 at piston ring(4l60e). you may also need manifold studs :) , and expect it to take 8 hours if its 4*4 and your first time doing one on that model
could try flushing the fluid and replacing the filter first to see if it makes it stop.

cheers

You may only have to replace the torque converter. It would be a lot cheaper than a complete trans assembly unless you have too much money & the trans has a lot of miles or has been working hard over the years. Still will not discount the fact it may also be the trans. Before you go too deep, a seized u-joint will also give you a shudder but mostly on acceleration.

This shudder seems like alot more then just a u joint the whole trucks violently shaking and I had just done the u-joints for safety I found a used unit with converter for 250$ so I might just go with that, this motor and trans was said to only have 90,000k if I'm dropping the trans for a converter I mine as well swap in a whole different unit just to be sure

the 06 i just did only had 91000 km on the truck, and had never pulled anything in its life and was driven by an old man (my old man) haha. he got over 700000 km on his 1990 silverado tranny so i dont think it was the driver.

Mine too at 159k the torque converter sent shavings through the tranny cookin it. Was towing a sled trailer and between 70-85km/h it was bucking until you got above or below that. 2 days later the truck wouldn't move.

The original problem is inherent with that truck, GM can quickly fix that, I have a 2000 with a 5.3 and mine had a very hard first to second shift, there is a reprogram that takes 5 minutes for a GM dealership to do. As for the new problem I haven't had any issues like that with 180k on my truck. I do a transmission flush every 80k and have never had a problem.

The only trouble i've had with my 06 is that I blew the input sprag at around 90000, got the 3rd gear clutch pack replaced and overdrive band and I think a couple bearings right away, would've maybe cost the same for a rebuilt trans as what I paid to fix this one
