Brings back memories of referring to my sled as a power toboggan and having my "skidooer" buddies look at me like my mind was gone. Maybe they were right, but....

Great story. Mike was my dads neighbor out on the farm. Nice to see him getting his due credit.

Yep, my dad rode on his first Power Toboggan in 1950 at White Poplar School, years before Polaris built #1. Legend says that the men in suits from Roseau came up to visit Mike and see his Power Toboggan. I believe there was an offer to help him go into mass production, but Mike respectfully declined. The rest is history...

Here's a few things Bosak. In that old photo, I don't think that was his original, but a later model. Definitely some cool history!
Is your uncle Ron still making sleighs? He built us a custom M-3 with 2' sides, probably back around 1990.

Thank you for sharing those photo's. Ron doesn't make many sleds so much now. However, still does for the odd person. They are retired now and travel.
My other Uncle Bob, (Mike Bosak's daughter's son ) lol - restores vintage sleds. They are very proud. He has a garage full of Bosak!!

No problem. I saw Bob at the Whisky Ditch swap meet in Selkirk a few weekends ago. I hadn't seen him for quite a few years. He's got a pretty awesome Polaris collection as well!

Here's a few more I found. These were taken somewhere in northern MB.
I was working with your uncle Bob about 15 years ago when a group of us started a club with the goal of opening a snowmobile museum in Beausejour. We were called the CSHM. The CSHM logo was an image of Mike's original sled. This photo was taken in Beausejour, I think at Sobetski's open house. Too bad that we eventually ran out of steam and the group fell apart.

I would love to see more pictures if you are able to post some. My only memories of Mike are when I was a kid and we used to go down to the farm trick-or-treating at Halloween.

This just came to mind. Those who are following the Mars Hill WMA debacle will probably be interested to hear that it was Mike Bosak who painted the "Painted Rock" on the north side of mile 84. Rumour has it that he actually had a cabin back in there. It would be cool to hike in there one day to see if there's anything left!

PolarisDan is on a distinguished road
Alot of people who either are avid snowmobilers or work within the sport or have some attachment to the sport don't have a clue how much influence our great province had on the evolution of snowmobiles in the very early years. They say Eagle River is the snowmobile capital of the world, but those that know their history could argue many small towns in MB had alot more to do with "the snowmobile" than Eagle River. The Bosak Power Toboggan is a great example of our provinces rich history with this sport. We see now that cross country racing is making a comeback as sno-x has peaked, the BIGGEST most prestigious cross country race of all time in the late 60's-70's and then again in the early 90's was to this day the Winnipeg to St-Paul 500. It's no coincidence that Roseau and Thief River are so close the Winnipeg and Beausy. Polaris use to have a factory in Beausejour way back in the day.
