myShed v 1.0

Ok so I finally threw together a shed with my cousin. this progress is 1 full day of work. I rushed in order to get it up before the roofers came (dur to hail).

I like the crib I did for the 8x12 size - I didn't want all the 12's to run the same way due to possibly warping, so I did a ladder shape.

I like the fact that we reduced the heights of the studs just enough so the siding (rona ready board - expensive!) covers the crib as well.

Roof was tricky and not perfect at all. did 6 12 pitch and birds mouth notches. Not sure how to improve this next time, somehow some of the trusses are not even, but most are really good.

I build over the old shed, so I left most of the cement blocks down and just evened out with 10 "feet". Not the best but good for what I needed.

We roughed in a 3ft door. I was so temped to go 5 ft, to be able to put an ATV in there, but I don't think I'll need that. 3 should be good.

Lumber and everything was $900 tax in, but I have allot of returns due to a few design decision changes. So I'll be less. The ready board siding was expensive, and changing that would save allot of money. But then you still need some way to side it.

Bister - thoughts?

Looks good and solid.

Siding (of any type) is nice on a shed vs. OSB.

Did you have some plans or design it all from scratch?
If you did it from scratch, you must have built some stuff before.

It's from scratch, but my cousin has experience and I do as well, just from long long ago. Probably in a galaxy far ..., oh nevermind!

ok touched it up today with some nice primed finger jointed boards, and some nice soffits (plastic type very easy and fast, only slightly more $ than a couple sheets plywood). Did some 1x4 to cover each corner and it almost looks like I know what I'm doing! Door is done and it's ready to get stuffed! Glad I did a custom door as it opens the full width, whereas a regular door would not be full width due to hinges and trim. So the snowblower will fit no problem.

Then came the Heinekens.

Pics, we need pics.

...and I don't mean pics of the "after party"

ok last set of pics!

next year maybe paint it green like the wood on the front of the house and the deck (actually I did two different shades of green on the deck as it's rather big...but the darker green would look good). The house is trimmed all black (I changed from brown) and now the new shingles are black as well, so I could trim the shed in black but honestly I like the primed white, so maybe a nice white would look sharp and contrast well.

Not sure what I'm into this thing for now, as I had 2-3 more trips for this and that type stuff. Probably added another couple hundred (rounding up). But I feel like the finishing touches make the difference. For example I dressed up the back for the neighbours benefit.

The space beside the sand box might be perfect for a nice outdoor chalkboard. That wall is pretty plain, but I didn't want a window right were the kids are often playing.

Looks awesome and "yep" the finishing touches are what racks up the cost, but worth every penny.

If I can suggest one thing, that would be to add a 3rd hinge, 2 is usually more than enough to hold the door, but it you ever catch the door with something and break a hinge, your door falls off and you wreck the other hinge, with 3 you usually just have to fix the bottom one. That's why I put 3 on mine.
