Ford uses Imperial MPG on their window stickers. This window sticker is from a Canadian 2010 Ford F-150 (see the big Canada decal under the fuel pump on the sticker)

11.2 km/100 L = 21.0 MPG US = 25.2 MPG Imperial

I guess more people in Canada use Imperial MPG that you think.

The ONLY reason imperial gallons were resurrected from the dead is because it sounds better for advertizing....
It has nothing to do with what gallon canada used to use- if american gallons were bigger I guarantee you that they would be advertizing those # in canada

??? Resurrected? I grew up in Canada, when I went to school we learned in inches, yards, quarts and GALLONS, when I was old enough to buy gas it was sold in Litres but my car's odometer read in Miles and when I divided the litres I bought by 4.54 it gave me the gallons so I could work out the MPG. I compare window stickers using l/100 kms and have an app to track all my fuel purchases that will easily toggle between the different worldwide methods. US gallons were simply a revolt against the English system. Very few locales outside the US use them.

2006 and 2007 GMC 1500 4x4's with 5.3 v-8s 16-19 MPG consistently and occasional low 20's with the 2007 and its seldom seen V-4 mode... and I drive like a granny.
1996 Chev 1500 2WD 4.3 auto gets 22 MPG average of all gas in the last year with bests of 24.5 MPG a few tanks.
1996 Chev 1500 4x4 with 5.7 vortec got 18.5 MPG last tank (new to the yard).
Cost per kilometer to drive a truck is going to cost you a minimum of 18 cents at today's price and is not going to get cheaper anytime soon.

2012 f150 fx4 w/ ecoboost and max tow package, 11.9 l/100 hwy on a calm day at 110 kph, tow 9700 lb trailer all the time and get between 22 an 25 l/100 at same speed, big difference between the two but still averages out better than my old ford 6.0l and doesn't cost me 20000 a year to keep on the road!!!

lol nope. my ford gets way better than that.

and imperial MPG simply is an advertising ploy these days.
never used to see it, but then lately all you see is "34 MPG mustang GT"

bunch of advertising BS. i have yet to see anyone other than a few folks here, and advertising use imperial MPG.
everyone uses the american MPG. just bugs me when i see someone say they get 30 MPG out of their 3/4 ton diesel truck. nobody uses it.
just a pet peeve of mine. no offense meant to anyone, just my opinion on the subject.

I'm sure that MPG Imperial started when distances were measured in miles, and fuel was sold in gallons. In Canada, fuel was measured in imperial gallons.

imp mpg

Most of the people I know still calculate imperial miles per gallon. Back in my father's days, no one ever calculated us mpg. We are canadian, choose imperial or metric.
Don't always rely on you instrument cluster calculations. 2 guys I know, one with a ford & one with a GMC followed each other towing each a fifth wheel camper. The Ford was showing 13 MPG. The GMC was showing 20 MPG. Both systems had been cleared initially before leaving & after a fill up. Turns out the Gmc cost $5.00 more to refill for having travelled the same trip following each other!

Mine's always been accurate(within .5 mpg) to what I put in if I go by the us gallon (I calculate every tank give or take a few if I forget), but my friend's dodge diesel consistently shows better than when he calculates it according to the receipt and miles driven

Thumbs up

Gotta say that I always convert the km's to miles, litres to gals, and figure everything out to Canadian values as I'm old school.Always have to figure out mpg that way.You guys/gals are makin' my calculator smoke here, lol.Thanx for the replies.
My old '88 Silverado gets at best 12 city/16 Hwy.
Towing it sees more like 11-12 mpg.
It may take me a while to find a newer truck but I do need a 4x4 with extended cab as my old Chevy isn't extended.
Keep the replies coming. All I ask is could you all convert to mpg for me,lol.

dude, really, give it up.
we had this discussion on a different thread
believe it or not some people were born before you !!
metric came in around 1977
until then MPG is what Canadians used as a measurement.
Canadian gallons were and always have been imperial
the window stickers used to say imperial or US MPG
some of us old timers still use this old way of calculating MPG
L/100 is way to inaccurate - need to add a decimal in there at least.
all the men that i talk to will ask US or Imp when talking MPG.
its the way we grew up.

and my truck does'nt get 30 MPG
it does 27 MPG IMP empty at 70MPH interstate.

oh just for you, thats 112.654 KMH
and 10.462 L/100 KM

Imperial MPG is the only MPG in CANADA. And I was born in the 80's. L/100k is just confusing for most people. Lots look and say oh yeah my truck is getting 25 pulling. They call it 25 mpg.

I don't know about makes other than gm but it always shows the l/100km behind the number when in metric mode, I think you'd have to be pretty dense not to figure it out, but as that other post with the lady about the deer crossings proves there are some pretty special people out there
