Wood Furnace Help

Does anyone on here sell or know a reputable company that sells and/or installs either out door wood bringing furnaces or wood electric furnace?

I am in need of a either a replacement wood furnace for my forced air combo or a complete out door wood burner. I curently have a Falcon wood electric combo and the fire box is shot , not sure if they are repairable or not?

Also if anyone has any suggestions on either as far as which is better/more economical?

Thanks!

Our wood electric is still good so don't have to make the decision but have thought about it before. Outdoor will take the fire risk away, keep the mess and the dust outside and will allow you to heat other outbuildings at the same time (if required). Insurance should be way down. Downside is having to maintain the fire outside when it is cold/dark and miserable. The outdoor boiler will burn waaaay more wood as you are losing the heat through the lines on the way in but most importantly losing the heat from the stove itself (door etc.)

Nice thing about the wood boiler is the mess is outside, you do burn alot more wood, but you can get a side arm for youe hot water tank that uses the furnace and no electricity, saves you about 30 bucks a month, if your buying wood, not worth it, cutting it yourself, then it's worth it, but not by much, had one for many years until it burnt, my fault, i used to fill it twice a day..biggest thing was to have someone look after it while we were away...

There is a guy on hwy 311 between 206 and the 59 that sells the outdoor boiler. Not sure of the name but he always had a bunch of new ones in the yard.

How bad is the fire box in the existing unit you need want to replace? Could you not just weld up new plate to the existing chamber? Say 3/16 plate?

Insurance companies don't like "natural" fires anywhere in the home OR outside. I know as my outdoor boiler burnt down and once it was gone my insurance went down, and the went down again after I put in the pellet stove. Unless you have the time to devote to 10 to 15 cord a year, "visit" to the damn thing 2 to 3 times a day and attempt to not boil over for the outdoor unit, its not worth it!!!!

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I think I am going to stay away from the outside wood boiler , too much wood and too much $$ to recover to make it worth it. I am going to call Falcon today to see if there are any options.
I am also going to see how this comes apart as I may be able to just weld it up my self.
Worst case I guess is a new furnace but we'll see...

Whats the typical life expectancy of these units? This one was put in in 98 I believe so I guess aprox 13 years of service.

Called Falcon in wpg and they will rebuild it for aprox $450 and give me full warranty on it. Thought that was a great deal!

I'd double check with your insurance as to using a rebuilt fire box, may be a no no ?....I'd see what a new one is than weigh it out

on a side note, one of my customers used 15 cords of wood in his outdoor stove and converted to an indoor stove and only uses 3-4 cords.....huge savings in time and money !

It's a Falcon Furnace rebuilt by Falcon to factory spec with new factory warranty so I can't see it being an issue. If I had someone just weld it I could see potential for and issue.
They said they do it all the time, the life span is about 10-15 years depending on how often its used, type of wood, how big of a house it heats etc.

If I did it from scratch I would probably be purchasing one of these units:

seems to be the best out there and much thicker material.

As long as the original manufacture of the stove is supplying the new firebox and it meets the specifications of the original certification it should be fine.
The unit needs to be certified to CAN/CSA-B366.1
a WETT inspection of the entire system is a good idea to make sure you do not have an issue later with the insurance company.
Insurance co's usually air on the side of caution and put a hold on coverage until the repair is finished and will require a inspection before they will continue coverage.

My entire system is already WETT certified, my insurance company wanted it done before they would insure the house.
