Radio Volume

Does anyone have a cheap fix for when the volume does not work on my Wife's 1993 Buick Regal LTD ? Everything else works fine on the radio except the volume is stuck at 5 bars.

No I checked that out and it's not stuck. I have heard of people using ether to free stuff up. I've never done that but will keep it in mind. I've only used ether to start diesel tractors when it starts to get old outside.

That's a three piece radio, the control panel with the buttons, the cassette player and the tuner/amplifier below the glovebox. You can also call Tom's Audio on St. Matthews, that guy fixes almost any factory radio out there. PS he may send you to us to remove the deck for service. That being said, you can replace that radio with an aftermarket radio, which goes in a mounting kit and replaces the cassette player, and you can replace the control panel piece with a storage pocket.

just get some contact cleaner.

Spray it into the Pot, and it should be ok... sounds like its tarnished inside... you can get decent contact cleaner from Active,Tiptop, or even the cheaper stuff from canadian tire.

Some older Pots you can get to the swiper arm.... take a burnashing tool, and clean the edges, or try using a little Deoxit....

Thanks allot for all the advise! I really appreciate it! I will let you all know which way I go.

MooseintheMarch: The Buick only has 345,000 kms on it and with a 3800 engine I have seen them going to over 500,000 kms and still running strong. My Brother had a Buick Century with a 3800 engine in it and over 400,000 kms. He gave it to one of his kids that lived in Winnipeg. I heard he got another 5-6 years out of it. My Wife works with a guy that has over 500,000 kms on a Oldsmobile and it to is still running strong.
I have talked about upgrading my Wife's Buick but there is no way she is ready for it. She says it should be good for many years to come (let's hope!) and on the highway we get 35-38 mpg!

lol BRP Fan I was only messing with you. I know how reliable the Buick and Olds are. I use to own an Olds and it was doing fine with over 300,000 km when it was written off in an accident. I miss that car....

I have to agree with you Shaker, GM made one heck of a awesome 3800 V6 engine! We were coming out of Golden BC heading East when this new 1/2 ton truck pulled beside us and he was going to show the world what kind of awesome power he had. Well a short time later I could not even see him anymore in my rear view mirror. Lots and lots of power for a 3.8 litre V6 engine!

Well long story short, I ordered an adapter kit and a Kenwood deck with AM & FM and a CD player from the very helpfully Guys at Advance Electronics. I now know why they are as large as they are, the service I got was unreal awesome!

Everything should be here in 2 weeks, the deck, adapter kit, harness adapter and antenna adapter. Once everything is here I will get our mechanic to install it. I used to do stuff like this myself but sadly after fall ill there is no way I could do it anymore.

Thanks to everyone for there help, it really means allot to me!!!
I will post a picture once the deck is installed.

I thought I should update this post. I ended up buying a Alpine deck, adpater plate, antenna cord adapter and wiring harness adapter from Advance Electronics. I got our mechanic to install the deck and it was a pretty big job. He spent 4 hours installing it but only charged us for 3 hours (he is a very good mechanic!). The wiring harness adapter was not long enough so he had to add extensions and soldered them together. Long story short my Wife loves the new deck and that's all that matters!
