Well my season lasted all of about 30 minutes this year, took me longer than that to pack the food in the trailer !!
Put out a trail cam in September and came up with a game plan.
Set up camp on Saturday and scouted the area waiting for opening morning.
Monday came and I was actually a little late getting started, arriving at my walk-in point just about at legal light (30min before sunrise). Decided a slow stalk in would be preferable without the cover of darkness to help conceal my approach, and at 0800 I bumped a deer ahead of me. It didn't run far and I could see it moving through the trees, so I began to creep forward to close the distance and get a look at it. After about 15-20 minutes he suddenly crossed the trail 50 yards away and gave me a quick look at him. He looked like a good buck so I took the shot. It trotted off but the 250gr Hornady SST had found its mark perfectly (heart and both lungs)...needless to say the tracking job was a short and easy one.
Spent the last couple days just camping and relaxing in the great outdoors.
