Generator problem..

Just got back from hunting camp and have not had a chance to look into this but...

Had an issue with my generator today.
It's a Champion 4000/2800W

It was hard starting it this morning, actually backfired once, then ran fine for a few minutes before the generator suddenly quit.
Motor itself seems fine, just no power output at all.
There was a heavy freezing rain early today, doubt that would have anything to do with it but ya never know...

Any ideas where to start looking ?
Worst case if I can't find the problem...who does repairs ?
Thanks in advance.

i have the same unit you said that there was a heavy rain my quess is that water got in to the gas. Those metal tanks with the depressed fill area and that huge metal gas cap stop nothing short of gum wrappers water probably got in. Drain tank put in fresh gas and add some isoprpal alchoal or better yet some seafoam both will displace the water in the system. I think the seafoam is better product it will clean the gunk out of your tank and carb if it is dirty. I always have seafoam in mine just as preventative maintainence

TJ500 will become famous soon enough
"Motor itself seems fine, just no power output at all."

does this mean the motor isn't running or does this mean electrically the generator is not putting out voltage/current while the motor is running??...

not completely clear of the problem... tj

Checked the oil, it was a little low but I topped it off before this happened.
Unit was running and working, then suddenly...the lights went out.
Breakers were the first thing I checked, neither circuit has any juice.
No obvious broken/loose wires.
Voltmeter on the gen. itself reads 0

Motor starts and runs no problem, the issue is there is no power output.

Realistically it will be a couple days before I tear into it, I'm just hoping to narrow down the search for the problem...

I would expect there to be a fuse, but there's nothing obvious so maybe behind the panel ?

I was kinda thinking the same about the keyway, as it was definitely running without a load on it and quit shortly after that backfire. Think I'll start there...thanks.

The fuse on the one I had was simply a black button that you push in.
