05 Sportsman overheating
Hey guys, I need some help. I have been having trouble with my 05 sportsman 500 ho overheating. It started that my rad was plugged, took out cleaned up and straightened all fins. Did a rad relocate kit and put it on my rack. Now my pod keeps coming up and flashing that "HOT CHECK ENGINE". My fan is running as I can see that now. I carried a temperature gun with me yesterday on our ride to start checking temps. My rad is running around 120 F. My Thermo sensor was running at the hottest 195 F. Fan was turning on around 160 F. When it flashes hot I stop for about a minute and it stops flashing.
Not sure where to start looking at stuff now. Could it be the thermostat, faulty sensor, water pump?? Any help would be great thanks. |

Forgot to mention, my antifreeze reservoir is full to the max cold and it doesn't puke any antifreeze out when it is flashing hot. So that leads me to believe that its not running that hot.

Maybe an air lock in the system?

I had a similair issue a few years ago with my 04 ^00, air locked. I just took my quad out of storage for two years and ran it out by Portage. After about 20 minutes riding through tall grass trail I got the engine overheat and I overflowed. I topped it up when I got back and I think I might of had an air lock again. It is running well now.

Its not overheating though. The antifreeze isn't boiling over. I can see my overflow tank as I'm riding and its not boiling over. The antifreeze itself is not getting that hot. So either the antifreeze isn't curculating properly or the thermo sensor is sending wrong info.

OP, did you ever get yours sorted out, my wifes started doing the same and I am going to test the thermo sensor according to the manual - let me know if you need info.

there is an update for this problem - need to replace the module - had this problem on my bike and the new module fixed it - wasn't really overheating - just indicating it was - get a new module

if 1 hose is hot and 1 hose is cold, it would tell that somewhere there is a block that is preventing the coolant from flowing. Maybe an air lock or a pump issue???
