02 5.3L. low oil pressure

Just bought a 2002 chev p/u with the 5.3.
Some how.. I didn't notice the low oil pressure on the guage
it gets down to almost zero, but no engine noise.
Did oil change, no difference.
Guage does flicker a bit, but not a lot.
206,000 km on the truck , not a lot.
any ideas?

could also check ohms at the sending unit(ohms at sending unit should be stable) and volts at the gauge itself if you can get to it (s/b somewhere in the area of 12 - 13.5 volts at the gauge).

For sure though what wo7 said is the right do it now thing to do.

As said try a master gauge on it. That will eliminate any doubt, and give you actual oil pressure.
God your having tough luck Tony.

Good call, but I think that screen is only on engines with AFM...

I am going to try and get a manual guage and the right socket and take a reading.
The guage works properly (higher reading when cold, lower hot), but about 1/4 of scale lower than all my other gm's. I got a oil change and its a bit higher, but still 2 lines up from 0 at idle in gear.

Don't fret till you get a master gauge on it. Betting its the sender, but you have to find that out.

If u don't have oil pressure sockets I believe it 27 mm thin wall deep and swivel and short extension

FISHERMAN will become famous soon enough
my sons 2007 Silverado was doing the same thing, changed oil pressure sensor, removed screened, changed oil and it was doing the same thing. Mechanic checked it out and found that the oil pump bolts were loose ( the one that holds the pump together) tightened them and all was good, thankfully caught early and no damage was done.

ok, seriously, I wouldnt listen to any of these "pros" on here. They all have no idea what they're talking about.

This is probably gonna be extremely expensive. EXTREMELY. I would almost bet its a muffler bearing. If you know anything about vehicles, these are EXPENSIVE. They also seem to take out many other parts on the vehicle.

To help you out, I'll give you 1000 bux for it so you dont have to go bankrupt fixing it :)

It's probably only good as a parts vehicle now. ;p

It does have oil pressure, just not a lot at idle. I am sure it is the sender... if not, I guess I am doing the pump
