Some people love them some hate them I personally don't like the idea of doing a restart/reset in Kenora, moosemin, or grand forks after a long trip

I was part of the project management team that implemented e-logs at one of Canada's largest trucking companies a couple years ago, well in advance of the mandate.

Like almost any other regulatory change, such as the HOS changes we've seen over the years, driver's HATED the e-logs and pushed back for about 6 months. Then...everything went quiet. No complaining, no push-back, nothing. Drivers got used to it; it became normal, and if you asked them about it most would say they preferred it.

It's all about getting used to change. Like it or not, the US mandate is looming and Canada is right behind them.

biggest problem i see is the speed limitation.
most trucks in ontario run at 100km. guys running at 90 become a hazard real fast, and most try and block u in the passing lanes.

The speed limit between the MB border and Thunder Bay is only 90km. North from Vermillion Bay to Red Lake is only 80kms.

At 100km on Hwy 17 you're looking at a $110.00 fine. Significant increase if you're doing 100km on Hwy 105 up to Red Lake.

Maybe they're blocking cuz they are doing the speed limit ??

You actually dont get a ticket till your 20 over. All ticket prices start at 110 in the 90, on the signs.
People that block other drivers, post a risk to all drivers.
( not saying i drive at 100, or place anyone else at risk. i just see it all the time)

I see it too. And I've had tickets on both highways in the past. It bothers me alot when I'm locked in at 98km/h with the cruise control pulling the RZR......already above the speed limit.......... and a truck is riding my azz for 15 km until we get to a passing lane. I can't wait to let him go. And I'm not going to drive further over the speed limit to get this guy off my azz. It's not just trucks either.

"Death Alley"" is not one to be fawked with at anytime of the year. I've been rolling on it for over 40 years and seen some pretty messed up stuff on that section of road. Too many people in all sorts of vehicles driving way too fast passing uphill, around corners, across double lines, etc.

Please be careful Tony and keep your head on a swivel !!

You are so right.... i have seen lots of accidents in the year and half i have been driving. Many times i see truck drivers passing up hill on a solid line. Scares me how dangerous some drivers are. I have saved a few lives (if not many) by hitting the shoulder.
Its nice going north a couple of times a month, at least u have lots of time to react.

e-logs

WE have been using E-logs for a year now, sometimes good some situations not so good, but you have to get used to it, it will be mandatory soon

Distractions on the roads are never a good thing. Could be that people are not used to seeing a polaris ahead of them. It would be unusual.

How do the E-logs work? Are they plugged in to the odometer or something?

Its too bad we have so many useless politicians in this country they should of started twinning the TransCanada through Northern Ontario years ago...if they can do it through the Rockies and the rest of British Columbia then they can do it through the shield.

I'm not some turban winder ****ing rookie idiot, I've been doing this for 29 years with no accidents, no computer is going to tell me how fast to drive and when to sleep.... and I'm ready to quit AGAIN!!! No wonder nobody wants to do this no money pain in the ass piece of shit job any more. Bring more brown clowns in, they'll work for free!!!

I think you might be confusing elogs with gps....... lots of companies run both.

Elogs will kill self employed guys like myself. But I'm sure there's a way around that stuff. We have to go hard when the work is there because it isn't there lots.

An I don't think semis have any business above 100 on any road except maybe #1 west. And if the speed limit is 90 you should be 90 or lower. Someone doing the speed limit isn't a hazard because the majority of people are speeding.
