when to use a separate front brake?

When or in what conditions would a separately controlled front brake be useful on an ATV?

I understand 1-lever for all 4; and I understand having the rears separate, but how would an advanced rider take advantage of independently controlling the front only?

Power turn. Brake with the front and power the rear to break the rear free.

Usually I just hammer the throttle to go into a power turn so that reason is out for me, maybe to do a brake stand without wearing the back brakes, that's all I'd use it for anyway

I used to use the front break all the time for highspeed trail riding. no risk of locking up your rear end and sending into a skid. I just found it alot nicer using only the front break when flying into corners and only needing a small decrease in speed, also helped tip the nose for better cornering.

my quad has no reaer brakes ne more there fubard. front ones still work good. i only use the front brakes and the engine brake

Technical riding on rocks or logs when you need to balance tires individually. As mentioned cornering in high speed conditions fronts are nice to be controlled on there own to control skid, powerslide, diving etc. Climbing hills or descending hills having separate brakes is valuable.

It's not so much about using one brake or another, it's modulation, and how do you control the front/rear bias with only one lever controlling both brakes. Machines with single levers are somewhat dangerous IMHO if your going to be anywhere near pushing the limits of handling. When you have to stop, you want to do it safely, and it is not always on a straight, with ideal conditions. Not sure how the different brands control the pressure from front to back, but it's not quite as simple as making it an across the board x/x bias for all conditions.
