Trackshare team in Baja 1000

Who wants to put a team together for next years baja 1000? Ill supply the machine. Have to mod it out. I think it would be sweat to run that race. Who's up for it? Im not completly serious but it is something I would like to do someday for sure. I think I would want to watch one first and learn about it. But I think it is definatly doable. The gym would be a must. You would have to be in great shape to run that, physically, and mentally. Also what type of mods do you think you would need to run to get a machine ready for that race? I know alot of utes, remove the front diff. Tires are crucial, I would imagine big horns would be in order. I would like to run ATR's but with the big spaces between the lug promotes puntures. Unless I ran tire balls. I feel the ATR's would be a great fit for the desert, as they are fast, light and nimble. You would want your machine to run cool, so probably an aftermarket exhaust. But gas miliage is important. I dont think HP will win this race. As the Rincon has destroyed the sport machine times and killed the renegade/outlander 800. I believe suspension would be the most important bolt on you could do.

What you guys/gals think?

-suspension, the second most important thing on the quad for this race. Spend about $3000 on shocks, woot, lol.

-tirs, the most important thing, without tires you can't go anywhere. They need to be durable, get a flat and your wasting time.

-rider, a rider with the skill and endurance is vital. You want to be able to ride for hours non stop. The rider also needs to know how to handle the terrain and where to go and what line to follow on the fly at 70 to 90 kmh.

-machine modifications would probably be extensive. Strip her down and gusset the frame, remove parts that aren't required and probably remove the front diff. A larger fuel tank would be nice.

I would prefer a solid rear axle machine, to an IRS machine. More durable, simpler, and will ride very well with good shocks. You need a reliable and proven machine for this event. I personally would pick a prairie or a SRA brute, tons of mods for it and are proven to be rock solid, lasting longer 90% of the time in the endurance races than other machines.

If people would like like to make a make a utility racer and tour down south a bit in some endurance racers I think I would go for it. We all pitch in a few grand, buy a machine and start building. Get sponsorship from Manitoba businesses and away we go. With enough sponsorship we could expand to two machines because having a second machine would be vital. We would then need a tow rig, toy hauler, pit crew.........yah, we are talking mega dollars.

Anyone rich and want to get us started?

lol, It would be a chore. But just to say that you completed a baja 1000 is something to remember. I dont know about the SRA any more though. The IRS machines, such as the Rincon, Renegade, and outlander are proving there own. Especially with teh rincon holding destroying the 450 times as well as the 800's. I think the IRS is smoother and is alot less fatigue on the driver.

True, it is smoother but with proper shocks they are pretty smooth. I haven't followed the Baja 1000 participants but at the 24 hour endurance races, Prairies usually dominate, the rincons are right there too.

Hate to bust your bubble but do you have any idea how much this would cost. Gas, tools, parts, hotal, air travel, basically build a new quad from the ground up. Would be cool to find out how much this would all cost before we would think of it. I always wanted to do a race in a rally car woot woot :). But the baja 1000!

It would be about 200 bucks in gas for the quad. I have all the tools you would need. I have the machine already. Other costs would be driving down there and hotels. No worse then a vacation. Would be racing in the sportsman class not the proclass, so that makes a big difference. Its a yamaha so it wont cost much to keep going. The training before the race would be the hardest part. You would have to be super dedicated. Most ATV's that dont finish is not due to ATV failure but human will power. Some just are not ready or in shape to run it or they crash and ruin the bike or themselves.

Funny you should mention that. I have been day dreaming about that for the last few days. It would be pretty tough to do a super high milage one. But a 100 mile race would be a blast.

Where are you getting your information from? Never heard anything about a rincon winning any of the classes.

2002 a rincon in first year production completed a baja 1000 in 22 hours and some minutes.

I'm having some trouble with your information ?? The 450's weren't even out then, neither was the renegade/outlander 800. I happen to be a big fan of atv racing in general, if you could find those race results that would be great if you could post a link.

I am just comparing by times. This year the fastest 450 was still slower then the rincon. The renegade was two hours slower then the rincon. Anyways. just google 2002 baja. I am going to take the grizz and win sportsman class in the future.

WOW! Bertram jumps his BF pretty much off a cliff, flatlands it, and breaks the frame.
You just made him look smart.

Sounds to me like your alot closer to winning a Darwin award than a Baja trophy.

Please post some links.

Well, this is what I found. This is the only guy that finished the sportsman class that year.

2002 Class ATV - Sportsman / ATV Baja 1000 winner Greg Melby 27:02:26 hrs 37.621 average mph

2002 Class ATV - Pro -atv Baja 1000 winner Ruben Martin G. 23:20:31 hrs 43.582 average mph

Comparing different years of Baja races isn't really a fair comparision as the the course changes from year to year and can be dramitically effected by weather conditions. The length of the race also varies from year to year as much as +/- 100 miles. If you look at the 2006 results you'll see the winning times in the atv classes are 5 hours faster than 2002.
