j/k
That's true actually, another prob with the YFZ's is the trannys are geared exclusivly for MX. I'm in 5th on the trails always snapping the clutch just to make sure there isn't another gear.
I know my quad wouldn't hold up there, but I know the body would!! I might need a little gusseting after the Moto but I know i'd finish

You should rent the movie Dust to Glory first. It's an amazing documentary style movie about the Baja 1000. Says that guys run $250,000 trophy trucks, followed by chase helicopters, all for a chance at a $4,000 prize, maybe. Baja is all about the glory, weather you win or not. If you want to do it on the cheap, check out the class 10 races. These guys are the real heros of the Baja. They run completely stock Volkswagon Beetles, and very little crew. You could probably go out there with a very minimal crew and finish the race.

Thats all I want to do is run it and finish it. Winning would be nice, but realistically it is not 100% feasable, since it would be the first one with no experiance.

Just curious do they have a time limit for these events? Why don't you start with the 500? Something a little more feasable...Do they give you GPS tracks for this as well?

You have to go down early to route the trail. Gives you a chance to put it on your gps and mark the scary spots.

Theres a test...get a truck load of yahoos together and do a trial run down the ditch. See how far before the guys are passing out! I doubt you'd make it to Sask! Prove me wrong and you'd be soooo cool!! lol

Not trying to do this in a truck! Be by quad. Guess where I do lots of riding? And riding in a ditch is totally different then the Baja. Theres a mindset and a goal. Plus there is terrain and a race course. Alot different then ditch banging. Be good practice though.

Thats what I'm saying...be good practice and you could see what driving at a fast pace for an extended trail like that. There are probably some trails where you could set up a circuit that is like 10miles round and run that for practice. Round and round...good workout for the bike too. Whatever...good luck man.

Might be a test if you can ride a mountain fire road at 70 mph!

Here's an interesting read from a Team Can-Am rider injured while racing the 2006 Baja 1000.

Very interesting thread to read. Love to do it or shall I say be there but my wife would prolly say NO! If your completley serious in this as an option you could round up some a media group to help out. I mean with all the rediculous "reality" tv shows on there maybe some media group willing to do it. Think a bunch of average joes wanning to compete a dream race against all odds............ I dunno it's just a suggestion.

Or get one of the ATV shows to sponsor you, provide coverage and make a big story out of it, same goes for the ATV magazines.
