Class 1 jobs

Will have my class 1 licence on Tues 29 th. I have 20 years experience in the towing industry, with a clean driving record.
Need to find and start a new job right away, in the trucking industry.
Would like to drive highway and stay in Canada.
What are some good places to work (that are looking for drivers) ?
Need to make good money and get to work almost right away.

What about a company like GeeTee, gravel and grain only I think. That would keep you somewhat local.

Class 1 jobs

Geetee would prob be seasonal. Could try gardwine/kleysen/Paul's hauling places like that. If you can afford m your own truck you can make more as well. But there's more responsibility with that. I might be looking for a truck driver but not too sure yet.

Your list of requirements doesn't sound realistic. Unless things have changed dramatically over the last few years, having a fresh class 1 and not wanting to run US is going to put you at the bottom of most employers lists. Most companies running east to Toronto take the US route. You're in competition with a lot of older experienced drivers who want to start staying a little closer to home. 20 years of tow trucks isn't going to help much pulling A's over Rogers Pass in January. And pay, well, you take what they give. A new class 1 gives you zero bargaining power. The only good news is it doesn't take as long as most jobs to prove your worth and move up.

Maybe try some O/O's hauling groceries?

Good advice Tyndall. Running south is gonna suck because you could be sitting without a load for days unpaid.imo I wouldn't be driving unless I could afford to drive my own truck. But that takes a lot of time and maintenance. But that's me. Although i do see a benefit to having someone else worry about it all because I pay a driver to drive and he makes good money to drive. But remember the less work an responsibility you want to take the less money you will make. Unfortunately your experience is driving a tow truck that's the same size as a 1 ton dually. It might not crossover as well as you hope. Good luck and when you find something I'd be interested to hear how it goes and I'm sure there is future drivers who would appreciate the knowledge you learn from your new employer

need experience! take what you can to learn..
most places want mountain experience and you don't want to be a rookie running the mountains in the winter!!
take what you can right now, and get experience! then you can pick and choose later

ps: this is the slow time of year.....

Bison in Winnipeg seemed like a very well run business almost worked for them. But the rigs made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

Gee Tee wouldnt be bad for some experience they clear parking lots, and do snow removal work for the city as well they haul salt to the city yards and the highways department yards so it could be busy if you keep getting snow like this. They also do a lot of gravel and related cartage work during the construction season and you'll get a lot of seat time there. There is also James Minsky Trucking he does mostly tandem work for the city and MB Hydro snow, mud, gravel, and plow truck all good experience.

I would try Pauls hauling or Gardewine.
Hauling gravel is ok until it rains for two weeks then every thing stops.

I was raised around truckers its a tough life with shitty hours, no respect and a lot of time away from home, I knew it wasn't for me I have had my class one since 1980( I learned in my Dads Ford CL9000 cab over) and hated driving so I stopped not long after I got my licence. The people who do it I have the utmost respect for and wish them nothing but happiness and luck. Its a job not to be taken lightly as it is dangerous and the roads are filled with idiots. I still have family and friends who run lots of miles yearly and love it, just be certain its what you want to do and approach it with a positive attitude . Its not a job to be taken half hearted or half assed. Good luck on your endeavour

Gee Tee wants experienced drivers.. they do gravel in summer and grain in winter! GRAIN SUCKS!!!! seen guys quit on the 2nd-3rd day!

Bison, last I remember, they want experience.. but everybody desperate for drivers they might not be so strict now and might take greenhorns.

You prefer van or deck work? I was with New Hope as a seasonal driver for many years. Canada runs only, quit running south the day they made passport mandatory. I love being a deck artist, not scared of toss'n straps/chains, or tarps. Better than just closing doors. You can do city runs or highway there.
No matter who you going to work for, they all have something about them that'll piss you off. Find the one that works for you, that's why I loved working for them. Mon-fri, can only, decent pay, and good trucks.

I work Monday to Friday and home every weekend and haven't crossed the border for almost a year but I drive my own truck and it goes where I want it to go. Most company drivers go where they are told to go. It's pretty hard to pick your hours and when you wanna be home sitting in someone else's seat.
