Getting the Moto-Ski all ready

Well since my switchback assault was stolen last year, I decided to just get the ol girl out of the shed and back in working order. this thing was last running about 6 years ago, and i was riding it during that time as well.

The exhaust gaskets had blown apart and the bolts had rattled loose and fallen out. So I got the engine pulled out last saturday night, replaced the gaskets and bolts and dropped the engine back in. Fired up right up better then ever. Having that exhaust work properly really helps on a 2 smoker.

also cleaned the carb out really nicely. Still have some fuel lines to replace, spark plugs, a track shock, and some other odds and ends but it's almost ready to go for winter!

yeah it's been taken care of for the most part. never stored outside which helped! the belly pan has a bit of rust and one small hole that I will address next summer. but in the grand scheme of things it's in great shape for it's age.

It has an incredible amount of miles on it. When the odometer stopped working years ago it sat at 34,xxx. never been rebuilt either! still going strong. Grandfather bought it brand new and it's been used almost every year since. aside from the past 6 years since I had my new switchback to ride. but it's making a comeback!

Such a fun sled too. it's a blast on the trails. crazy good handling. and she will do 60-65 MPH no problems. more than enough for our trails.

engine bay shot. This is what I love most about old machines. So simple to work on. Had the engine out, gaskets replaced, engine back in, and sled running again in about half an hour.

My Brother used to have a sled just like your. It's also very close to a Ski-Doo Citation.

yep basically the same sled. I think the citations might have been a dual carb setup? Maybe that was just the SS though.

either way, fun sleds!

Identical to my first sled, 1981 Citation 4500. The Citation SS was short track/ twin carb.
My old citation is still going as well, junior fixed her all up. Its on its second or third motor and second track.
Be sure to check that chaincase oil, they like to go dry when sitting. Ask me how I know.

My Wife and I used to have Ski-Doo Citations back in the day and you are right the same sled. Ski-Doo must of made them for Moto-Ski. The ones we had were single carb set ups and my Wife could get her sled to 70 MPH on hard packed groomed trails, unreal! I updated to a Ski-Doo Formula Plus with a 583 Rotax and I wanted to update her sled as well, but she would not hear of it. Of course on the straight track I blow past her, but down in the Pembina Valley there was no way I could loose her. It's amazing little sled, we had tons of fun with the ones we had.
