Buddy is running a large job for govt & is servicing 50+ 3500 diesels, Ford & dodge. All are getting deleted because of constant def & other emissions related issues. He hates tohe dodges, wayyyyy more issues than fords. I deleted 11 dmax couple yrs ago, now love the truck.

I was told that emissions equipment is now part of the safety inspection for trucks 1 ton and over and has to be in place to pass a legit safety?

Right yes I was thinking about the visible stuff like DPF and EGR missing etc. DPF and Regen systems seem to be a major problem in our climate as well.

They can check your programming or sniff the exhaust. I believe dot in Ontario have computers to do this.

They have the ability to hold you and do what they wish. While maybe they donít have a computer to check. Iím not sure if what they carry to verify speed limiter is capable of anything else. If they find that your system isnít hooked up properly you can be fined for disassembling it. I donít know the rules on the shops if they have to enforce and operating system or just visually inspect it.

a lot of companies replace the trucks every few years.
Volvo offers a 800,000km bumper to bumper warranty this year, including services.
Also 800,000 miles on the auto trans. How can a guy go wrong with a new one.
And they sure drive nice :)

The only speed limiter verifier in northern ontario is in Sault St Marie and they don't even use it any more, and every truck that isn't still on warranty is deleted in Northwest Ontario and I was told point blank "we don't care". As long as it "looks" like it's still functional that's all they care about. We have 5 deleted trucks and they'll all pass emissions tests, mine did last week as a matter of fact. As far as safeties go, roadside or CVIP all it has to do is look functional. My stacks are blacker than the ace of spades and nobody has given me a second look.

I know of one company that doesnít get the break you seem to have.

What the law is and what the enforce might be 2 different things. But doesnít mean that they canít do it if they actually want to.

Warranty doesnít pay for lost loads and time waiting to get in line for a fix. And when you canít fix your truck when itís back at the shop thatís also lost money. Maybe your boss donít care if a truck is down for a couple weeks but I do.

None of our trucks have been down for more than 3 days.
Most times its a sensor, or easy changed part.
With the miles we put on, I cant imagine a old truck lasting very long.
and.... it has always made it home on its own. just with the engine light on. mine has only derated once.

In the shop 4 or 5 times a month at 2 days or so per repair isnít a way I can make money. Sucks for the driver as well. Lots of old trucks in nice shape stay tight for plenty of miles doing much harder work than your truck is tugging down the hwy.

Dollars and sense for what your doing just make sense from an owners point of view because thatís how they operate.or itís the fact that they donít have to staff a mechanic and the added cost of new with warranty just makes it simpler for them. But I would be tired of sitting in a shop 2-3 times a month. That isnít the norm. For the most part I see air line or coolant line repairs off my old trucks. Iíve done one engine truck was at 1.8km and not sure of the previous life it had. Other is at about the same with no work done and another at I think 2.2 and I had recently done cam and bull gear in it.
